The children are developing in the same mould, but the overriding feature of all their lives and the guiding spirit of this book, is their self-sufficiency and courage to make their own choices, come fair weather or foul. Casting fate to the ocean winds without visible means of support in the third millennium demands a lot more guts than ever it did thirty years ago. Clapping on a wire seizing is a skill that can only be mastered by latching on to a seizing stick made out of your favorite hardwood. I will illustrate with images and narration how to clap on a wire seizing on any sort of vessel from a large historic sailing ship to a small yacht that would satisfy the scrutiny of even the bulliest of bosuns from the Great Age of Sail. I enjoy clapping on a wire seizing and find it a skill that every rigger/bosun worth their salt should have in their ditty bag of traditional rigging skills.
