Alternative Action Theory written by Ota Weinberger and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-06 with Philosophy categories.

Action is conceived of as an intentional behavior of an individual or of an institutional subject; it is determined by information processing, namely by a process in which pieces of descriptive and practical information are involved. Action is explained by a formal and finalistic theory which is connected with a specific theory of institutions. The philosophical basis of the logic of norm sentences and of other systems of practical thinking (formal teleology, axiology, logic of preferences) is discussed. The author criticizes traditional deontic logic and argues in favor of a genuine logic of norms. The book gives a structure analysis of the so-called practical inference and of nomic causal propositions. Besides a critical account of von Wright's practical philosophy the author offers critical analyses of discourse rationality (Habermas, Apel, Alexy) and of Wittgenstein's views on philosophizing. The book addresses readers interested in philosophical logic, practical philosophy, sociology of institutions, legal philosophy, and theory democracy.

On Human Action And Practical Wisdom written by Guorong Yang and has been published by BRILL this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-05-18 with Philosophy categories.

In On Human Action and Practical Wisdom, Yang Guorong offers a description of his “concrete metaphysics.” This system seeks to overcome traditional metaphysical problems by providing a concrete basis - which serves as both the starting point and the final determining factor - for metaphysics. Yang gives a discussion of wisdom and practical action that begins in our everyday activities and social relationships, is extended to form universal principles, and finally refers back to actual situations for determining appropriateness. Based on his unification of ontology, epistemology and axiology, Yang thus attempts to overcome the one-sided understanding of action in modern Western philosophy, targeting in particular the excessively linguistic, logical, and abstract focus found in the American analytic tradition.

Many important thinkers in the philosophical tradition have used an explicit theory of action as the basis of their respective normative theories of practical rationality and morality. The idea behind this architecture of theories is that action theory can inform us about the origin, bonds, reach and limits of practical reason. The aim of this book is to revive this direct connection between action theory and practical philosophy, in particular to provide systematic action-theoretical underpinnings for the discussion about the normative structure of practical reason. This book brings together a collection of specially commissioned essays from internationally prestigious scholars in the field and represents the state of the art in contemporary philosophy of action. The volume significantly advances these three lines of research and offers important new contributions to each of them.

Design And Systems written by Arne Collen and has been published by Transaction Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on with Philosophy categories.

Praxiology starts from the point of view of effectiveness. It has three components: analysis of concepts involving purposive actions; critique of modes of action from the viewpoint of efficiency; and normative advisory aspects in recommendations for increasing human efficiency. The third volume of this series aims to make more visible to the English readership the importance of design throughout the many disciplines, professions, and arenas of human endeavor. Design is a pervasive part of our daily lives to such an extent that it goes largely unnoticed. It has become a near invisible aspect of our civilized existence. But when we stop for a moment to study an artifact, activity, group, and institution, or any entity or life process, we can begin to see and imagine the design, the designing, and the human designers who contributed to it. Design and Systems represents a set of contributions made to the methodological study of design. Chapters and contributors include: "Toward Metamedicine" by Kazem Sadegh-Zadeh; "Design Engineering Methodologies in English and German Language Regions and Influences of Culture" by Wolfgang E. Eder; "Systems Methodology and Design" by Gerald Nadler; "Problem Forming, Problem Finding, and Problem Solving in Design" by Herbert A. Simon; and "Design: A Journey to the Future" by Bela H. Banathy, Design and Systems continues the trend of original research done in a little-known, but important area. It will be an enlightening read for sociologists, philosophers, and scholars interested in the study of design.

A Practical Philosopher S Approach To Critical Theory written by Gerry Ewert and has been published by FriesenPress this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-04 with Philosophy categories.

Postmodernism has convinced people that there is no way to determine what is true. However, this is false and has led to the progressive erosion of civility in society, in part because what we assume determines what questions we ask and what we see as data. Postmodernism is inherently self-contradicting and detrimental to social cohesion and civil behaviour. Habermas’ critical theory, coupled with the theory of action Gerry Ewert presents here, establishes a practical way to determine what is and is not true—providing one is actually interested in what is true, independent of what one wishes to be true. A Practical Philosopher’s Approach to Critical Theory walks through some of the conceptual fundamentals undergirding assumptions people make about reality as an introduction to the major issue of the question, “What is truth?” Habermas’ critical theory is used as a framework through which to determine which method of determining truth is appropriate in different situations. While others have addressed what people need to think about in their personal lives, A Practical Philosopher’s Approach to Critical Theory addresses what people need to attend to in their public lives. The challenge of democracy is that the very systems put in place to provide public goods have inherent tendencies to serve their own interests and not the public interest. Ewert’s goal is to aid readers in gaining a perspective and a way of engaging with the world that enables them to be freed from ideological distortion and to become fully aware, emancipated persons.
