Conservative religious figures routinely warn against the dangers of secularization, just as proponents of the modern secular state decry the theocratic tendencies of religion. Both sides assume that the sacred and the secular are diametrically opposed. Gabriel Vahanian rightly calls such misbegotten assumptions into question. The problem lies elsewhere. In the light of the biblical dialectic of holiness and the secular, Praise of the Secular deftly "vindicates" the secular, weaving together philosophy, history, and theology in fine Derridean, yet reinforced, deconstructionist fashion. Vahanian argues that religion, far from being opposed to the secular, finds its fulfillment in the secular world. Armed with a compelling interpretation of Christ's incarnation, he claims that "we have not grasped John's notion of the word become flesh, even of God as wording, until or unless we realize it must so expand as to demand the worlding of that very word, extending it into secular relevance." In other words the holy, if not the sacred, demands its own secularization. In this poetically written and profoundly life-affirming work, Vahanian reinvigorates the secular against the claims of fundamentalism, which makes the relative absolute, and against the ideology of a kind of atheism ("secularism" is his term), which makes the absolute relative.

This book traces the history of how the celebration of Thanksgiving in the U.S.A. has changed from the time of the Pilgrims in 1621 to modern day 2012. What started as a religious observance marked by worship, prayer, a hearty meal and a community attitude of thankfulness has transitioned over time to a secular long weekend filled with family, friends, over-eating, watching football and shopping. The primary purpose of the book is to encourage Christians to refocus their Thanksgiving Day celebration away from the secular to the religious with an emphasis on giving thanks to our Creator and Providential Provider ... Almighty Jehovah God.

No Other God written by Gabriel Vahanian and has been published by Wipf and Stock Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-09-01 with Religion categories.

In the aftermath of writing The Death of God, Vahanian had opportunity to advance his discussion. In his introduction to No Other God, he wrote, "Taken as nothing less if nothing more than a cultural phenomenon, the death of God signifies the transition from radical monotheism to radical immanentism and marks the birth of secularism as the vector of the new religiosity. It announces the the advent of a new, culturally Christian, paganism, even while theology is busy overlooking its indigence or covering it up with a glorified but amnesic vocabulary....But what I have denounced elsewhere as the charter of the incipient post-Christian idolatry is now proclaimed as the first article of an immanentist religiosity. So called 'Christian atheism' glories precisely in what I deplored when I first used the term 'death of God.' Meanwhile, Christian theology serves only to separate the Church from the world, instead of pointing to the fact that the Church is -- or should be -- what happens when the world hears the Word of God." Vahanian, recognizing that God is a word, and that God is not God without the world, ultimately helps readers understand the two poles of language that need to be kept in balance: wording the world and worlding the word. In this light, idolatry of every kind is threatened by new language, both symbolic and iconoclastic, which serves to usher in a new world.

After founding a Food Ministry in 1987, and serving as the director, counselor and teacher for sixteen years I found that people, Christian people do not know much about the Bible, I have been studying the scriptures for twenty-five years. My life was nothing to be proud of, but when the Holy Spirit drew me to Jesus and I ask Him to be Lord of my life, that I wanted the best He has for me, and I would give Him the best I could give. I want my Christian brethren to know all He died for us is ours, for He loves us. We counseled with the people and showed them through the bible how Jesus could meet their needs, Then we gave them food, good food that they could make a good meals from, as time passed I did not see that the people were gaining much to change their lives, and Jesus was teaching me more about the Kingdom of Heaven here on earth . It does not penetrate the people's heart that we can have heaven here on earth, because the Preachers and Teachers do not know how to live in heaven here on earth. You need to know how to live in the Spirit and not in the world; the kingdom of heaven is a spiritual place. Galatians, 4:16, This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. V-17, For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary the one to the other, so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. V-18, But if ye be led of the Spirit, Ye are not under the law. I do not mean to go round saying praise the Lord or hallelujah, all over the place, I mean to make your home a heavenly place to live, love your neighbor, love thy God, do good to others get all the unforgiveness out of your heart, ask Jesus to forgive you of your sins. This is the reason for this book and other books to come. There is no reason for people to go to hell, when the kingdom of heaven is in you. My intended reader is all-Christians, that are confused about the bible. and the unsaved. Ephesians, 6:19, And for me, that utterance mat be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel, V-20 which I am an ambassador in bonds; that therein I may speak boldly, as I ough to speak. The only way to know the mystery's of the gospels is through the Spirit. John O. Rose www.iamthewayministry.com E-mail [email protected]

"This book tries to return to the first obligation of the Christian, that of worshipping God. It argues that contemporary Christian thought and practice, insofar as they are moved away from the center, usually in the name of social action or ecology, have changed the essential meaning and purpose of human life in the Christian tradition. Christianity has always been concerned with the common man. It has not doubted his finiteness and his fallenness, but it has also insisted that this is the kind of person who is called to share in the life of the Triune God. It is therefore uncompromising in insisting that the worship of God comes first, and this enables Christians to transcend any secular ideology which pretends priority to this worship. The mood of the book is mainly light-hearted. It falls largely into the tradition of sanity and humor that have come to be associated with the particularly English Christianity of such writers as Chesterton and Belloc, C.S. Lewis, Tolkien, and Mascall. Within that tradition it argues that the centrality of the basic dogmas of our faith is precisely what frees us both from the solemnity of contemporary ideologies and for Christian laughter--the Divine Comedy"--

THE WISDOM OF GOD'S ATTITUDE CONFOUNDS THE WISDOM OF HUMANKINDS ATTITUDE! How can we describe an abstract term like the word attitude and prescribe it in such a concrete way? The Word of God is the avenue to achieve this objective! The author explains how attitude is more than just positive or negative, but rather situational instead. Various attitude principles are discussed with stories of the bible in reference to each type of attitude being addressed. In Godly Attitude Worldly Latitude, R. A. Day, Sr., expounds upon earthly definitions of attitude with heavenly inspirations that show how Christians should be imitators of their Lord and Savior. This book is a far different read than the standard social psychological or business model interpretations of what an attitude should be in life. It cries out the mantra of not looking upon our own things, but upon the things of others; and letting this mind (or attitude) be in us which is in Christ Jesus. A broadened horizon of the attitudes of longitude, latitude, altitude, and many more attitudes will be achieved victoriously through the living out of these newfound principles. This is made possible through all the interpersonal relationship challenges and storms that life tends to throw our way.
