Wakaf telah menjadi fenomena umum pada masyarakat Mesir sejak ratusan tahun yang lalu. Tingginya kesadaran masyarakat Mesir akan pentingnya wakaf menjadikan aset wakaf di Mesir melimpah dan sulit untuk dikelola tanpa campur tangan pemerintah. Oleh sebab itu, pada masa Dinasti Al Ayyubi telah didirikan sebuah lembaga yang disebut dengan “Diwan Al-Ahbas” yang bertanggung jawab untuk mengelola aset wakaf termasuk di dalamnya aset wakaf para penguasa terdahulu, dan lembaga ini telah mengenal sistem ijarah (sewa) dan sistem istibdal (menjual aset wakaf untuk kemudian hasil penjualannya dibelikan aset yang lain).

This is an open access book. The theme, as well as the main objective, of the conference, is "Integration of Islamic Economics, Finance and Philanthropy for Sustainable Development of Cities and Communities". This conference program will elaborate on how a nation can achieve sustainable development and at the same time solve socioeconomic problems such as poverty. This is an open access book. Still related to the big theme of reinforcement the SDG’s at the previous conference, we try to invite academics and researchers in the world to participate in the 3rd Borobudur International Symposium 2021 (3rd BIS 2021). As we know, The COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on all 17 SDGs have demonstrated that what began as a health catastrophe swiftly transformed into a human and socioeconomic crisis. Keunikan Institusi wakaf dikarenakan wakaf merupakan salah satu ibadah yang memiliki dimensi hablumminallah dah hablumminannas. Selain itu, wakaf juga sebagai satu bentuk kebajikan dalam Islam yang menggabungkan antara aspek kerohanian dan aspek kebendaan. Lebih istimewa lagi, pewakaf akan memperoleh pahala yang terus-menerus walaupun ia telah meninggal dunia selama harta yang diwakafkan memberikan manfaat kepada masyarakat umum. Dari segi lembaga sosial ekonomi, wakaf dapat berperan penting dalam menyelesaikan masalah kemiskinan yang dihadapi bangsa Indonesia, terutama sejak krisis ekonomi. Undang-Undang No. 41 Tahun 2004, mendefenisikan wakaf sebagai perbuatan wakif untuk memisahkan dan/atau menyerahkan sebagian harta benda miliknya untuk dimanfaatkan selamanya atau untuk jangka waktu tertentu sesuai dengan kepentingannya guna keperluan ibadah dan/atau kesejahteraan umum menurut syariah. Undang-Undang No. 41 Tahun 2004 tentang Wakaf ini membuka paradigma baru perwakafan di Indonesia, karena wakaf bukan lagi semata-mata persoalan ibadah, melaikan sebagai pranata keagamaan yang berperan sebagai indikator ekonomi.
