Life through the eyes of a three-year-old is different than the world you and I see. Love is not complicated. Life is not complicated. Prayer is not complicated when you start your day with cartoons and Cocoa Puffs. If you are looking for the definitive guide to prayer, the one book that explores prayer from an exhaustive, analytical point of view, this is not the book for you. I have made every effort to sift the complex and complicated through the filter of a child. Of all the sermons I've heard in my lifetime, there have been two that I will never forget. One dealt with the eternal security of a believer. The other dealt with prayer. The simplicity of both messages, as they dealt with deep doctrinal issues of faith, is what resonated with me and has had a lasting impact upon my life. There have been times in my life that I felt like the disciples when they asked Jesus to teach them to pray. I wanted my prayers to matter. Over and over again, Jesus encourages us to embrace the kingdom of God like little children. In the eleventh chapter of Matthew, He said, "I praise You, Father. You have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father. You did this for Your good pleasure."Use this book to explore the simplicity of praying like a child, before you knew the meaning of impossible. Recapture the innocence of prayer, before life became complicated. Take a step back, look at life, and look at God through the eyes of a three-year-old.

Fresh, biblical ideas to help you pray for tots, teens and all ages between. Fresh, biblical ideas to help you pray for tots, teens and all ages between. Our culture says that the most important things for children are education, good health, treats, entertainment, and material things. Yet as Christians, we know that children's spiritual health is the most important thing. So we need to pray for them, but where do we start? This little guide is both deep and do-able. Melissa Kruger takes us back to the Bible to show us what God’s will for children is, so we can pray in line with it. She selects 21 key areas of spiritual growth and character development. For each one, there are five short prayer prompts drawn straight from the Bible. When we pray in line with God's priorities as found in his word, our prayers are powerful and effective (James 5 v 16)-and that's a truly thrilling prospect. This book can be used in any number of ways: work through it as part of your daily quiet time, or pick it up whenever a particular need arises. Either way, it's worth stepping out of the busyness of daily life for five minutes to pray meaningfully for your child, grandchild, godchild, or kids in your church-from tots to teens, and every age in between.

When the disciples asked Jesus, “Lord, teach us to pray,” they uttered one of the deepest and most universal cries of the human heart. For men of all ages have instinctively felt that prayer is the distilled essence of religion. If we know how to pray, we know how to be religious; if not, then religion is a closed book. Where there is no effective prayer life, the heart of religion has ceased to beat and religion becomes a dead body of forms and customs and dogmas. And yet how few Christians have an effective prayer life! (And this includes many ministers.) If I were to put my finger on the greatest lack in American Christianity, I would unhesitatingly point to the need for an effective prayer life among laity and ministers. Kagawa once said to second-generation Japanese Christians on the West Coast: “Your greatest lack is that you do not know how to pray.” He saw that their Christianity was anemic and ineffective, because they had not learned the discipline of prayer. If I had one gift, and only one gift, to make to the Christian Church, I would offer the gift of prayer. For everything follows from prayer. Prayer tones up the total life. I find by actual experience I am better or worse as I pray more or less. If my prayer life sags, my whole life sags with it; if my prayer life goes up, my life as a whole goes up with it. To fail here is to fail all down the line; to succeed here is to succeed everywhere. In the prayer time the battle of the spiritual life is lost or won. Prayer is not an optional subject in the curriculum of living. It is a required subject; it is the required subject. And there is no graduation into adequate human living without prayer. Perhaps we are all more or less convinced of this viewpoint, but the “how” of prayer is the crux of the difficulty. To try to answer that word “how” is the burden of these articles. I propose to begin at the lowest rung of the ladder so that no one will feel I begin beyond him.

Drawing from Jesus words to the disciples to become like children, Marilyn McCord Adams presents more than two hundred fifty original prayers that serve as powerful and practical examples of how adults can pray in a manner that combines the complexity and richness of their adult experiences with the candor, immediacy, demands, and expectations of a child. The prayers in this collection encourage us to move to a deeper level of intimacy and openness to God, which McCord Adams believes will compel us to bring the pressing problems facing us directly to God. This resource, which can be used by those who lead public worship as well as those who seek to grow closer to God in private, includes prayers that address social and personal concerns such as peace, justice, care of the environment, and responding to Gods call.

Grace Mazza Urbanski, former director of Children’s Ministry for the Apostleship of Prayer (now the Pope's Worldwide Prayer Network), gives parents practical advice on how to help children find opportunities to pray throughout the day in Pray with Me: Seven Simple Ways to Pray with Your Children. Using warmth, humor, and passion, Urbanski draws on personal experience to show how families are brought closer together through deeper contact with God. There are opportunities for children to pray everywhere—when a friend gets hurt on the playground, before a test in the classroom, and even as they hear ambulance sirens while riding in the car with mom or dad—not just at meals and bedtime. In Pray with Me, Urbanski identifies seven ways that parents can help deepen their child's relationship with God by using everyday life as a trigger for prayer. She shows how spontaneous prayer, traditional prayers you know by heart, scripture, song, silence, and reflection help families draw closer to God and each other. Urbanski weaves personal stories with a heartfelt devotion to Christ to teach parents how to help their children learn to respond to life in prayer.
