This text provides a comprehensive review for practicing pathologists to understand the molecular biology, diagnostics, and predictive markers and implications for therapy of uterine cancer. While molecular based therapeutic strategies for uterine cancer are not as well developed as for some other organ sites, these are the most common gynecologic malignancies and there have been many important recent developments that are discussed in this volume. Comprehensive chapters address essential information about endometrial carcinoma, uterine mesenchymal tumors, and cervical carcinoma and include the pathogenesis of carcinoma and discuss molecular based classification, biomarkers, therapy, prevention, and hereditary cancers of the uterus. Precision Molecular Pathology of Uterine Cancer is a unique and one of a kind resource for practicing pathologists, pathologists in training and gynecologists.

Given the complex molecular pathways in breast cancer biology, the book simplifies these complex mechanisms and highlights the practical issues important for daily practice. Sections are structured to review breast carcinogenesis and the role of familial predisposition and stem cells in initiation and progression of breast cancer. In-depth chapters present morphologic and molecular correlations in precancerous and malignant breast lesions, while outlining highly practical issues that are in practice today in breast pathology, such as evaluation of estrogen, progesterone receptors, and HER-2. Written by experts in the field, Precision Molecular Pathology of Breast Cancer is a valuable resource that covers the current practice of breast pathology and looks into the future with an emphasis on the molecular basis of breast cancer.

Uterine Cancer written by Franco Muggia and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-06-10 with Medical categories.

For the Editors, the task of writing a Preface is most satisfying. It represents the completion of the book and a moment of reflection on whether the whole is more than the sum of all the parts. And also, one must reflect on how this book is likely to be utilized in this era of rapid communications. The Editors first met in May 2003 at a stimulating Italian symposium on endometrial cancer (organizers Drs. Luigi Frigerio, Roberto Grassi and Andrea Lissoni, with participation of the deans of Italian Gynecologic Oncology, Ugo Bianchi and Constantino Mangioni) that took place at Bergamo and Caravaggio. The impressive gains in biology and clinical trials were further discussed by the two editors and others that are co-authors in this venture on this side of the Atlantic at a 2004 Educational Session at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). The pace of progress in various aspects of management of uterine cancer was no- worthy, not only was tumor biology fueling novel hypotheses such as questioning the mesenchymal origin of carcinosarcomas, but knowledge of molecular pathways was beginning to be applied as prognostic and as predictive factors portending benefit from systemic therapies. Surgical staging and sensitive imaging provided the underpinning for refining our treatment algorithms. Finally, a role for che- therapy had finally become established, principally through phase III studies c- paring chemotherapy to radiation in mostly locally advanced stages III and IV that had undergone resection.

This succinct yet comprehensive volume describes current and emerging concepts in molecular pathology of bladder cancer. Divided into two distinct sections, the first part focuses on the general principles of molecular findings in bladder cancer, while the second part focuses on the molecular changes associated with specific histologic subtypes. The volume also addresses such topics as molecular alterations in non-invasive and invasive disease, including bladder cancer variants as appropriate, emerging molecular classifiers of bladder cancer, and molecular associations to outcome and treatment. Written by experts in the field, Precision Molecular Pathology of Bladder Cancer is a valuable resource for those in the urologic community, including urologic pathologists, urologists, urologic oncologists and radiation oncologists, who treat and manage bladder cancer.

Molecular Diagnostics In Cytopathology written by Sinchita Roy-Chowdhuri and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-11-21 with Medical categories.

Molecular diagnostics are increasingly used to help guide targeted therapy in solid organ tumors and hematologic malignancies. A large proportion of molecular testing is performed on limited-volume samples obtained via minimally invasive techniques, such as fine needle aspiration. Increasingly, cytopathologists play an essential role in this process, both in the triage of specimens during rapid on-site evaluation and in the evaluation of archival samples to determine suitability for ancillary testing. Therefore, it is imperative that practicing cytopathologists stay abreast of up-to-date diagnostic, prognostic, and predictive ancillary tests that can be used on limited cytologic material. This is a challenge since the landscape of known genomic alterations is constantly evolving and the subsequent set of testing options is ever expanding. The proposed text will provide a user-friendly quick-reference handbook to serve as a useful resource for practicing pathologists and laboratory personnel dealing with, and interested in, this evolving field of molecular cytopathology. Essential components to be presented include: 1) pre-analytic factors that affect sample selection and evaluation; 2) specimen preparation to maximize confidence in results; 3) interpretation of results; 4) potential limitations; and 5) workflow algorithms. In addition, specific disease specific molecular testing details will be outlined to provide the reader with resources for quick reference. All chapters will be written by experts in their fields and will include the most up-to-date scientific and clinical information. Molecular Diagnostics in Cytopathology will be of value to Cytopathologists, Cytotechnologists, Cytotechnology students, Cytopathology fellows, Surgical pathologists, Pathology residents and fellows, Molecular Pathologists, Molecular pathology fellows, Molecular technologists, as well as Translational researchers with an interest in molecular cytopathology.

A logical approach to formulating a pathologic diagnosis from the diverse array of tissue received in the surgical pathology laboratory. The authors are both prominent gynaecologic pathologists, and this book is the result of their long-running Short Course presented at the International Academy of Pathology. Illustrations show typical artefacts and distortion and explain their impact on diagnostic interpretation, and each chapter includes a section on "Clinical Queries and Reporting" that summarises the features to be discussed in the final pathology report. Here is a strongly didactic approach to one of the most frequently ordered pathological examinations. You find superb illustrations on virtually every page and fast answers to everyday questions since emphasis is placed on clinically relevant material: commonly encountered specimens, common problems and common diagnostic issues.
