"Eugenio Montale (1896-1981) is best known for the intense lyrical vision of his first three collections of poetry, written between the 1920s and early 1950s. With the publication of ""Satura"" in 1971, the profile of his work changes irrevocably as a new disillusioned voice emerged, commenting ironically on post-war Italian society and debunking his own previous poetic myths. O'Ceallachin, while placing this body of work firmly in its historical and ideological context, explores the poetic texts in detail, approaching the work from a variety of interpretative and thematic angles, and constructing a comprehensive reading of Montale's later work."

Archives Of Authority written by Andrew N. Rubin and has been published by Princeton University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-08-16 with Literary Criticism categories.

Combining literary, cultural, and political history, and based on extensive archival research, including previously unseen FBI and CIA documents, Archives of Authority argues that cultural politics--specifically America's often covert patronage of the arts--played a highly important role in the transfer of imperial authority from Britain to the United States during a critical period after World War II. Andrew Rubin argues that this transfer reshaped the postwar literary space and he shows how, during this time, new and efficient modes of cultural transmission, replication, and travel--such as radio and rapidly and globally circulated journals--completely transformed the position occupied by the postwar writer and the role of world literature. Rubin demonstrates that the nearly instantaneous translation of texts by George Orwell, Thomas Mann, W. H. Auden, Richard Wright, Mary McCarthy, and Albert Camus, among others, into interrelated journals that were sponsored by organizations such as the CIA's Congress for Cultural Freedom and circulated around the world effectively reshaped writers, critics, and intellectuals into easily recognizable, transnational figures. Their work formed a new canon of world literature that was celebrated in the United States and supposedly represented the best of contemporary thought, while less politically attractive authors were ignored or even demonized. This championing and demonizing of writers occurred in the name of anti-Communism--the new, transatlantic "civilizing mission" through which postwar cultural and literary authority emerged.

F-Day: The Second Dawn Of Man a novel by Colin R. Turner It had taken Karl Drayton just thirty-four years to go from an innocent boy in love with life, to an adult completely at odds with it. Struggling all his life to find success, and then finding it, he still wasn't happy. Why was life such a struggle anyway? Why were there so many problems in the world, but no real answers? One day Karl decides to make a small change in his life - sparking a chain reaction that would bring him down a rabbit-hole and alter his world view forever. Suddenly he understood exactly what was wrong with the world, and could see his fellow humanity - like a species addicted - sleepwalking into destruction. So he had an idea. Armed with just a computer and some basic web skills, Karl creates an online alternative movement which, to his surprise, strikes a chord with millions of others who are beginning to think just like him - that mankind's most precious belief was dragging him down. In an ever hostile, decaying world, Karl Drayton becomes the heretic, calling time on the world's biggest religion: Money. Working against invisible forces trying to stop him, a US President with a hidden agenda, and an unlikely farmer turned statesman, Karl's radical alternative vision takes him on a journey across the world and finally to the one place on Earth where his new philosophy might have a chance - Iceland. F-Day: The Second Dawn Of Man boldly questions our social norms and paints a compelling alternative reality that is hard to leave...

The product of many years’ research and material gathering, Burnett Bolloten’s The Grand Camouflage is a very richly documented study of the reasons for the Communists’ success in taking over the anti-Franco forces in the course of the Spanish Civil War. “ALTHOUGH the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War in July, 1936, was followed by a far-reaching social revolution in the anti-Franco camp—more profound in some respects than the Bolshevik Revolution in its early stages—millions of discerning people outside Spain were kept in ignorance, not only of its depth and range, but even of its existence, by virtue of a policy of duplicity and dissimulation of which there is no parallel in history. “Foremost in practising this deception upon the world, and in misrepresenting in Spain itself the character of the revolution, were the Communists, who, although but an exiguous minority when the Civil War began, used so effectually the manifold opportunities which that very upheaval presented that before the close of the conflict in 1939 they became, behind a democratic frontispiece, the ruling force in the left camp. “The overthrow in May, 1937, of the government of Francisco Largo Caballero, who was the most influential and popular of the left-wing leaders at the outbreak of the Civil War, marked the Communists’ greatest triumph in their rise to power. What was the secret of their success? And why did they attempt to screen from the outside world and to misrepresent in Spain itself the revolution that had swept the country? The answer lies within these pages.”—Burnett Bolloten

Memory And World War Ii written by Francesca Cappelletto and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005-08-01 with Social Science categories.

Foreword by Michael LambekThe death and destruction of war leave behind scars and fears that can last for generations. This book considers the connections between memory and violence in the wake of World War II.Covering the range of European experiences from East to West, Memory and World War II takes a long-term approach to the study of trauma at the local level. It challenges the notion of collective memory and calls for an understanding of memory as a fine line between the individual and society, the private and the public. International contributors from a range of disciplines seek new ways to incorporate local memory within national history and consider whether memories of extreme violence can be socially transformed. Personal testimony reveals the myriad ways in which communities react to and reconstruct the horrors of war. What we learn is that terrifying experiences reside not only in memories of the past but remain embedded in present-day lives.
