Today we see more and more the importance of knowledge management. Just like we do not know how a number of things were done in the past centuries, we also often lose information from more recent times. There are a large number of situations where organizations suffer because of lack of successful knowledge management. Many organizations, both small companies and large corporations, are trying to address the issue of preserving information they accumulate. Every organization today generates a large amount of paper and electronic documents, a large portion of which holds the knowledge of those organizations. Proper management of that knowledge and its archiving are very important for organizations. Unfortunately, the issue of document or knowledge management is not widely discussed in the technical communication literature. The issue of document management is addressed in a number of books published in recent years, but there is little available in the professional literature that most technical communicators read. In this research, I looked in detail at knowledge and knowledge management, showing how it is connected with document management and why document management is very important for organizations. Document management evolved over the last several decades, and, therefore, it is useful to know about the history of document management in order to successfully implement a system in any organization. Document management today faces a number of issues that prevent successful implementation of document management systems. I address this point in the section following the overview of the history of document management. An abundance of software on the market (one of the issues that document management faces) often makes it difficult for organizations to choose the product that is right for them. I review several products available today and summarize the main characteristics of each of them. Available document management systems offer various options and vary in price. Before implementing any new system, organizations need to decide what their priorities are, what they can sacrifice, and choose the best available program that accommodates their key needs.

This book investigates organizational learning from a variety of information processing perspectives. Continuous change and complexity in regulatory, social and economic environments are increasingly forcing organizations and their employees to acquire the necessary job-specific knowledge at the right time and in the right format. Though many regulatory documents are now available in digital form, their complexity and diversity make identifying the relevant elements for a particular context a challenging task. In such scenarios, business processes tend to be important sources of knowledge, containing rich but in many cases embedded, hidden knowledge. This book discusses the possible connection between business process models and corporate knowledge assets; knowledge extraction approaches based on organizational processes; developing and maintaining corporate knowledge bases; and semantic business process management and its relation to organizational learning approaches. The individual chapters reveal the different elements of a knowledge management solution designed to extract, organize and preserve the knowledge embedded in business processes so as to: enrich organizational knowledge bases in a systematic and controlled way, support employees in acquiring job role-specific knowledge, promote organizational learning, and steer human capital investment. All of these topics are analyzed on the basis of real-world cases from the domains of insurance, food safety, innovation, and funding.

Knowledge Preservation Through Community Of Practice written by Rocco Agrifoglio and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015 with Community-based social services categories.

This book links knowledge management literature and information systems research to explore the process of knowledge preservation within a community of practice. It contributes to existing literature in different ways. First, it provides a conceptualization of the 2community knowledge preservation3 process. In contrast to previous knowledge management research, knowledge preservation is thus viewed as a process in its own right rather than an integral part of knowledge creation and sharing. Furthermore, the book also investigates how communities of practice preserve knowledge, by identifying the main mechanisms and tools enabling members to select, store and actualize the explicit and tacit forms of collective knowledge. More in general, the book presents guidance on how to use communities of practice to ensure the preservation of knowledge in development processes, for individuals and organizations alike.

The task of Knowledge Management (KM) is to capture explicit and tacit knowledge of an organization in order to facilitate the access, sharing, and reuse of that information. KM must be guided by a strategic vision to fulfill its primary organizational objectives: improving knowledge sharing and cooperative work inside the organization; disseminating best practices; improving relationships with the external world; preserving past knowledge of the company for reuse; improving the quality of projects and innovations; anticipating the evolution of the external environment; and preparing for unexpected events and managing urgency and crisis situations. One approach for KM is to build a corporate memory or organizational memory (OM), for which several techniques can be adopted. The choice of a solution depends on the type of organization, its needs and its culture, and must take into account the organization's people and technology. Knowledge Management and Organizational Memories presents models, methods, and techniques for building, managing and using corporate memories. These models incorporate knowledge bases, ontologies, documents, FAQs, workflow systems, case-based reasoning systems, multi-agent systems, and CSCW. The book is divided into five parts: methods; knowledge-based approaches; ontologies and documents; case-based reasoning approaches; and distributed and collaborative approaches.
