Excerpt from Prince Charles Edward: His Life, Times, and Fight for the Crown Some five or six years ago, Lord Rosebery told of a conversation which took place in London between himself and a very distinguished historian. "Don't you think enough has been done for the Jacobites of the eighteenth century?" said the historian. To which Lord Rosebery replied: "Well, perhaps to the eye of reason it may be so; but to the eye of sympathy I do not think we can ever do enough for the Jacobites of the eighteenth century.
