Silver Nanoparticles For Antibacterial Devices written by Huiliang Cao and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-05-18 with Medical categories.

Since the potential toxicity of silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) has raised serious concerns in the biomaterials and biomedical engineering community, Silver Nanoparticles for Antibacterial Devices: Biocompatibility and Toxicity brings together the synthesis, the physicochemical properties and the biological actions of Ag NPs, as well as the clinical demands for fabricating antibacterial medical devices, discussing how to suppress the side effects of nanomaterials and how to impart to them the selective toxicity. This book presents the two primary paradigms that have emerged in probing the antibacterial applications of Ag NPs, i.e. the active attacking releasing way and the conservative defending approach by taking advantage of various short-range actions; it shows readers how the ways in which Ag NPs have behaved can be engineered purposively. With contributions from leading international experts and extensive references listed in each chapter, this volume provides the general principles on controlling the physicochemical behaviors of nanomaterials and managing their toxicity risks.

Nanobiotechnology is the application of nanotechnology in biological fields. Nanobiotechnology is a multidisciplinary field that currently engages researchers in conventional as well as advanced avenues of engineering and natural sciences. The recent developments in nanobiotechnology have impacted various socio-economic sectors, including medical, agriculture, food, textile, and other industries. Although the integration of nanomaterials with biology has led to the development of diagnostic devices, contrast agents, analytical tools, therapy, and drug-delivery vehicles, bionanotechnology research is still in its infancy. The full potential of developments in this field have yet to be realized. This book discusses various nano-engineered materials or nanocarriers that are used in different situations. It presents 8 chapters that cover the application of nanobiomaterials in environmental remediation, nanofertilisers, nanobiotics against antimicrobial resistance, nanobiosensors in pathogen detection, and nanotoxicity assessments. Each chapter is structured into easy-to-read sections that explain fundamental and applied concepts of nanobiomaterials. Readers will gain a current view of the biotechnological application of modern nanomaterials and nanoparticles. The book is intended to be a primer for students and researchers in agriculture, biotechnology, and biomedical engineering courses.

Fungal Nanobionics Principles And Applications written by Ram Prasad and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-07-27 with Technology & Engineering categories.

Fungal nanobionics has great prospects for developing new products with industrial, agriculture, medicine and consumer applications in a wide range of sectors. The fields of chemical engineering, agri-food, biochemical, pharmaceuticals, diagnostics and medical device development all employ fungal products, with fungal nanomaterials currently used in a wide range of applications, ranging from drug development to food industry and agricultural sector. The fungal agents emerge as an environmentally friendly, clean, non‐toxic agent for the biogenic metal nanoparticles and employs both intracellular and extracellular methods. The simplicity of scaling up and downstream processing and the presence of fungal mycelia affording an increased surface area provide key advantages. In addition, the larger spectrum of synthesized nanoparticle morphologies and the substantially faster biosynthesis rate in cell-free filtrate (due to the higher amount of proteins secreted in fungi) make this a particularly enticing route. Understanding the diversity of fungi in assorted ecosystems, as well as their interactions with other microorganisms, animals and plants, is essential to underpin real and innovative technological developments and the applications of metal nanoparticles in many disciplines including agriculture, catalysis, and biomedical biosensors. Importantly, biogenic fungal nanoparticles show significant synergistic characteristics when combined with antibiotics and fungicides to offer substantially greater resistance to microbial growth and applications in nanomedicine ranging from topical ointments and bandages for wound healing to coated stents.
