INTRODUCTION TO Geochemistry This book is intended to serve as a text for an introductory course in geochemistry for undergraduate/ graduate students with at least an elementary-level background in earth sciences, chemistry, and mathematics. The text, containing 83 tables and 181 figures, covers a wide variety of topics – ranging from atomic structure to chemical and isotopic equilibria to modern biogeochemical cycles – which are divided into four interrelated parts: Crystal Chemistry; Chemical Reactions (and biochemical reactions involving bacteria); Isotope Geochemistry (radiogenic and stable isotopes); and The Earth Supersystem, which includes discussions pertinent to the evolution of the solid Earth, the atmosphere, and the hydrosphere. In keeping with the modern trend in the field of geochemistry, the book emphasizes computational techniques by developing appropriate mathematical relations, solving a variety of problems to illustrate application of the mathematical relations, and leaving a set of questions at the end of each chapter to be solved by students. However, so as not to interrupt the flow of the text, involved chemical concepts and mathematical derivations are separated in the form of boxes. Supplementary materials are packaged into ten appendixes that include a standard-state (298.15 K, 1 bar) thermodynamic data table and a listing of answers to selected chapter-end questions.

Principles And Applications Of Inorganic Geochemistry written by Gunter Faure and has been published by Macmillan College this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1991 with Geochemistry categories.

This text attempts to enhance students' understanding of geological processes by showing them how to use chemical principles in solving geological problems. Emphasizing a quantitative approach to problem solving, this new text demonstrates how chemical principles control these processes in atomic and large-scale environments. In this way, students may see that the principles and applications of inorganic geochemistry are accessible, internally consistent, and useful for understanding the world around us. And as professional geologists, this understanding may help them to predict the outcome of chemical reactions occurring in geological processes and to realize the important role they play in characterizing our environment.

Lavishly illustrated in color, this textbook takes an applied approach to introduce undergraduate students to the basic principles of structural geology. The book provides unique links to industry applications in the upper crust, including petroleum and groundwater geology, which highlight the importance of structural geology in exploration and exploitation of petroleum and water resources. Topics range from faults and fractures forming near the surface to shear zones and folds of the deep crust. Students are engaged through examples and parallels drawn from practical everyday situations, enabling them to connect theory with practice. Containing numerous end-of-chapter problems, e-learning modules, and with stunning field photos and illustrations, this book provides the ultimate learning experience for all students of structural geology.

Geochemistry is the science that uses the tools and principles of chemistry to explain the mechanisms behind major geological systems such as the Earth's crust and its oceans. The realm of geochemistry extends beyond the Earth, encompassing the entire Solar System and has made important contributions to the understanding of a number of processes including mantle convection, the formation of planets and the origins of granite and basalt. Geochemistry for undergraduate/graduate students with at least an elementary-level background in earth sciences, chemistry, and mathematics. In keeping with the modern trend in the field of geochemistry, the book emphasizes computational techniques by developing appropriate mathematical relations, solving a variety of problems to illustrate application of the mathematical relations, and leaving a set of questions at the end of each chapter to be solved by students.

Geochemistry is referred to as the study of the phenomena that control the abundance, composition, and distribution of chemical compounds and isotopes in geologic environments. It is vital to understand the processes related to production of economic concentrations of minerals by hydrothermal, magmatic, metamorphic, hydraulic, or weathering agents. Geochemistry encompasses the topics such as the Earth's aggregate physical and chemical state, thermodynamics, solutions and simple phase relations and mineral chemistry. The chemistry of natural waters, the chemistry of igneous rocks, chemical controls on soil formation, diagenesis, metamorphism, hydrothermal ore deposition, radioactive isotope geochemistry, stable isotope geochemistry, surface sorption geochemistry, chemical kinetics, organic geochemistry and atmospheric chemistry are also undertaken within this field. This book contains some path-breaking studies in the field of geochemistry. The topics covered herein deal with the core subjects of geochemistry. This book will provide comprehensive knowledge to the readers.
