Is there hope for a broken church to be restored? Church splits, scandals, and power struggles are so commonplace that they hardly seem newsworthy anymore. But God's desire and plan is for these hurting congregations to be rebuilt into strong, healthy churches that showcase His love and power to their communities and beyond. Pastor Christopher A. Lewis accepted God's call to move from a thriving ministry in Chicago to the broken and struggling Christian Community Church of God in Lauderhill, Florida. Within just one year of ministry there, he saw tremendous spiritual growth, interpersonal healing, and renewed community outreach. Numerical growth and physical repair of the church accompanied repentance and restored fellowship. Today the church is thriving, and Pastor Lewis shares from his experiences in this highly practical and personal book. Drawing rich insights from the book of Nehemiah, this manual for church repair will show you how to: - Prepare your own heart and life to see God work - Implement principles of effective personal and corporate prayer - Understand and prioritize the problems and concerns facing the church - Deal with dysfunctional leadership and rebuild trust in the ministry team - Turn the congregation from fighting each other to working together to fulfill God's mission Plus, each chapter contains relevant questions and prompts for personal application, as well as decisive action steps. Pastors and church leaders who have a burden to be used by God in a ministry of rebuilding will find much-needed direction and support in these pages. If this level of restoration sounds like an impossible dream, The Rebuilder will fill your heart with hope, vision, and determination to see God work. Even the most broken church can experience His best!

The Churches of Christ and Christian Churches comprise two of the principle fellowships to evolve from the American Restoration Movement-a movement fueled by the desire to abolish denominational borders and boundaries that have long divided the Christian community in hopes of building a brotherhood inclusive of all genuine followers of Jesus Christ. Nearly two centuries later, however, many within these two fellowships have abandoned the work of restoration and the hope of a united Christian fellowship. In Restoring the Restoration Movement, authors N.R. Kehn and Scott Bayles, with clever insight and a conversational tone, take a look "under the hood" at many of the doctrines that have divided the Churches of Christ and Christian Churches from each other and from mainstream evangelical Christianity in general-all in hopes of returning to the on-going work of restoration and to the original ideals of the Restoration Movement and true Biblical Christianity. N.R. Kehn has been a longtime member of Churches of Christ. With a secular degree in Network Administration and ongoing education in Software Engineering, Nathan combines impeccable logic with diligent Bible study. He currently serves in various capacities at the Florissant Church of Christ in Saint Louis, MO, where he also resides with his two sons, Nathan II and D.W. Scott Bayles is a graduate of Freed-Hardeman University and has preached for numerous Churches of Christ within the United States and abroad. He is also the author of The Greatest Commands: Learning to Love like Jesus. Currently, he serves as the preaching minister for First Christian Church of Rosiclare, IL, where he lives with his wife and two children.

"One of us failed and one of us was blindsided. One of us is in vocational ministry today and one is not. Both of us know what it is like to need the restorative ministry of the local church, and how hard it is to find. 'The Christian Army is the only army in existence that shoots its own wounded' is a popular cliché because it is true. We have both experienced that trauma, but we are not victims." - the authors. There are multitudes of broken ministers and laypeople scattered across the globe that are "shipwrecked" from the faith. Broken people who have made bad choices or were broken by the bad choices of local churches. Why is this so? The Scriptures clearly teach, "Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted." (Galatians 6:1 ESV). Jesus Himself gave the parable of the shepherd who left 99 sheep in the fold to search for one that had been lost (Matthew 18:12). This book seeks to provide biblical and practical help for those who wish for their churches to "be catchers" instead of "pitchers." The authors share their personal implosions and personal stories from others who needed "reclaiming" because of a personal failure or a church failure. The authors provide a framework for how churches can develop a truly biblical culture of restoration that leads them to restore broken believers to a healthy relationship with God and His local church. In fact, the practical principles shared in this book were hammered out in the experience of a local church led by one of the authors, Pete Tackett. Antioch Baptist Church in Johnson City, Tennessee, has been transformed into a "reclaiming" church that has been used of God to restore several broken ministers and church members to spiritual health and usefulness. Pastor Pete met his co-author, Michael Stover, when reaching out to provide tangible assistance shortly after Michael and his family were ousted and moved back to Northeast Tennessee. This book is for every pastor, every deacon, every church member, and every denominational leader who desires to reverse the tide of discarding broken believers from our churches. So little of this is actually accomplished that we had to coin a new word for those being reclaimed - "restoree." Whom do you know that needs restoration? A young pastor chewed up and spit out by the traditional church "machine?" A deacon who cheated on his wife? A pastor who revealed years of personal sin, or whose sin finally exploded publicly? A church member who made a bad choice out of desperation and now is embarrassed to return to church? This book is actually for them - to revive and equip local churches and members to pursue them and restore them to spiritual health and vitality for the Kingdom's sake. Are you ready to pursue that journey? Pete Tackett is an experienced full-time pastor who currently leads an exceptional church that seeks to restore the broken. Michael Stover is a former minister of 20+ years who is now a full-time freelance writer and author. They both reside in Johnson City, Tennessee.
