Principles of Engineering Design discusses design applicability to machine systems, the nature and scope of technical processes, technical systems, machine systems, the human design engineer, the design process, and cases related to methods and procedures. The text deals with the structure, mode of action, properties, origination, development, and systematics of such technical systems. It analyzes the design process in terms of case problems, modelling, structure, strategies, tactics, representation, and working means. It also describes in detail the general model of a methodical procedure: separate design steps are treated in a unified fashion from different perspectives. The text notes that the tasks and methods of design research involve the following: (1) Components—determining structural elements in the design process; (2) Sequence—determining a general procedural model for the design process with a minimum of failures; (3) Modifications—what changes in factors affect the design process; and (5) Tactics—selection for individual design operations to obtain optimal results. A case study exemplifies the significant stages of design of a welding positioner. The book is highly recommended for students and the practicing design engineer in various fields.

Good design is the key to the manufacture of successful commercial products. It encompasses creativity, technical ability, communication at all levels, good management and the abiltity to mould these attributes together. There are no single answers to producing a well designed product. There are however tried and tested principles which, if followed, increase the likely success of any final product. Engineering Design Principles introduces these principles to engineering students and professional engineers. Drawing on historical and familiar examples from the present, the book provides a stimulating guide to the principles of good engineering design. The comprehensive coverage of this text makes it invaluable to all undergraduates requiring a firm foundation in the subject. Introduction to principles of good engineering design like: problem identification, creativity, concept selection, modelling, design management and information gathering Rich selection of historical and familiar present examples

Principles Of Engineering Design written by Vladimir Hubka and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1987 with Engineering design categories.

From the Preface: "Methodical procedures in design engineering, in spite of their relatively recent use, have taken on a wide variety of forms. Is this multiplicity only an external characteristic, or is it an integral part of the problem? This question represents a challenge, and has stimulated a search for the common denominator in the efforts to date. One result of this search - the General Procedural Model of Design Engineering - can be viewed as an attempt to synthesise published opinions, contributions to discussions by students and designers, and experiences from teaching in colleges and in continuing education courses. In preparing this work, attention was given to the following requirements: - as far as possible, general applicability to the area of machine systems; - as far as possible, consistent treatment of each step, and consistent terminology; - a rational foundation for all steps and for its sequence; - presentation of the fundamental knowledge that can assist understanding of the procedures; - minimum of descriptive content, to ensure adequate clarity, and to preserve widest generality. The model desrbied in this book will assist both the student and the practising design engineer."

Effective Inquiry For Innovative Engineering Design written by Ozgur Eris and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-06-27 with Technology & Engineering categories.

Effective Inquiry for Innovative Engineering Design presents empirical evidence for this claim. It demonstrates a unique attribute of design thinking by identifying and characterizing a class of questions called "Generative Design Questions". These questions are frequently asked by designers in dialog. Their use constitutes a fundamental cognitive mechanism in design thinking. Their discovery stems from another finding of the work: a conceptual duality between questions and decisions that is engraved deep within the design process. This duality challenges a view that treats designing as decision making. Decisions form the tip of the iceberg; Questions keep it afloat: Can an effective decision making process be performed without having high quality information? Can high quality information be acquired and generated without performing an effective inquiry process? The answer to both questions is no, and underscores the importance of our quest to better understand the role of inquiry in design.
