NUCLEAR LOCKDOWN When a plot to unleash weapons of mass destruction on U.S. soil is discovered in a coded message, all clues lead to the country’s most notorious prison. With time running out, Mack Bolan goes in undercover as an inmate to find out who’s behind the attack and stop it from happening. Surrounded by corrupt guards and convicted killers who want him dead, Bolan can’t trust anybody—and one wrong move could be lethal. Weaponless and cut off from the outside world, he’s aware that the only tools he has to track down the nuclear devices hidden in the prison walls are psychological warfare and hand-to-hand combat. This high-security facility may have been designed to keep the deadliest criminals in check, but nothing can keep the Executioner down.

Are more people being imprisoned throughout the world? Why is imprisonment still being used on a wide scale when an increasing number of alternatives are available? What are the major developments in prison law in the last decade? What problems arise in prison systems when states become constitutional democracies for the first time? Should prisons be privatized? How can prison conditions and prisoners' rights be improved? What special measures should there be for women, juveniles, violent offenders or drug addicts in prison? What programmes work effectively under which conditions? The second edition of "Imprisonment Today and Tomorrow" presents much fresh information in its attempts to provide answers to these and other crucial questions. It provides authoritative accounts by leading national experts on the place of imprisonment in 26 penal systems of major countries throughout the world. In addition, through the chapters on the work of the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman and Degrading Punishment, non-governmental organizations and the United Nations, it sheds new light on international initiatives to promote prison standards. These are complemented by a comparative survey of world prison populations and a final chapter in which the editors evaluate developments described in this volume and elsewhere in order to arrive at conclusions about international trends and to make well-grounded proposals for prison reform.

Nursing In Prison written by Joanne Brooke and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-07-19 with Medical categories.
This Textbook addresses a gap in the market, as currently there are no contemporary books exploring nursing within a prison setting. The main focus is the provision of healthcare in the Prison Service of England and Wales, although examples will also be drawn from the United States of America and Australia. Healthcare within prison settings has changed remarkably to address the needs of the changing prison populations. Thus, this text is clearly structured to support student nurses to understand the role of the nurse within prison and how the different specialities of nursing are applied in this unique setting. This textbook provides an overview of the context of prison, prisoners, and healthcare, as well as the experiences of nurse specialists who work in this field, including adult, mental health, and learning disability nurses across primary care, mental health services, substance misuse and end-of-life care. This volume is informative for both undergraduate student nurses and for qualified nurses and dispels many myths regarding working as a nurse in a prison. Each chapter is written by experts within the field, including nurses who have worked or still working within the prison setting. An important objective of this work is to inform student nurses of the possibility and opportunity of a nursing career within a prison setting.

Games Prisoners Play written by Marek M. Kaminski and has been published by Princeton University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-06-05 with Social Science categories.
On March 11, 1985, a van was pulled over in Warsaw for a routine traffic check that turned out to be anything but routine. Inside was Marek Kaminski, a Warsaw University student who also ran an underground press for Solidarity. The police discovered illegal books in the vehicle, and in a matter of hours five secret police escorted Kaminski to jail. A sociology and mathematics major one day, Kaminski was the next a political prisoner trying to adjust to a bizarre and dangerous new world. This remarkable book represents his attempts to understand that world. As a coping strategy until he won his freedom half a year later by faking serious illness, Kaminski took clandestine notes on prison subculture. Much later, he discovered the key to unlocking that culture--game theory. Prison first appeared an irrational world of unpredictable violence and arbitrary codes of conduct. But as Kaminski shows in riveting detail, prisoners, to survive and prosper, have to master strategic decision-making. A clever move can shorten a sentence; a bad decision can lead to rape, beating, or social isolation. Much of the confusion in interpreting prison behavior, he argues, arises from a failure to understand that inmates are driven not by pathological emotion but by predictable and rational calculations. Kaminski presents unsparing accounts of initiation rituals, secret codes, caste structures, prison sex, self-injuries, and of the humor that makes this brutal world more bearable. This is a work of unusual power, originality, and eloquence, with implications for understanding human behavior far beyond the walls of one Polish prison.

This book analyses the nature, causes, logic, and culture of prison victimisation in an English young offender institution for young men aged 18-21 years old. Drawing on ethnographic and qualitative research, this book offers a comprehensive analysis of the gendered, situational, individual, and moral components of prison victimisation. It explores how wider technological, economic, policy, political, and cultural changes have altered the texture and structure of prison life and prison violence, and with what consequences. Ultimately, the book argues that high levels of prison violence are not inevitable. Rather, the prevention of prison violence requires a just, lawful, humane, and hopeful environment, and failing to create such is tragically life-changing for young prisoners.

Is prison a humane form of punishment and an effective means of rehabilitation? Are current prison policies, such as shifting resources away from rehabilitation toward housing more offenders, improving the safety and lives of incarcerated populations? Considering that many Canadians have served time, are currently incarcerated, or may one day be incarcerated—and will be released back into society—it is essential for the functioning and betterment of communities that we understand the realities that shape the prison experience for adult male offenders. Surviving Incarceration reveals the unnecessary and omnipresent violence in prisons, the heterogeneity of the prisoner population, and the realities that different prisoners navigate in order to survive. Ricciardelli draws on interviews with almost sixty former federal prisoners to show how their criminal convictions, masculinity, and sexuality determined their social status in prison and, in consequence, their potential for victimization. The book outlines the modern “inmate code” that governs prisoner behaviours, the formal controls put forth by the administration, the dynamics that shape sex-offender experiences of incarceration, and the personal growth experiences of many prisoners as they cope with incarceration.
