The present volume contains all the exercises and their solutions for Lang's second edition of Undergraduate Analysis. The wide variety of exercises, which range from computational to more conceptual and which are of vary ing difficulty, cover the following subjects and more: real numbers, limits, continuous functions, differentiation and elementary integration, normed vector spaces, compactness, series, integration in one variable, improper integrals, convolutions, Fourier series and the Fourier integral, functions in n-space, derivatives in vector spaces, the inverse and implicit mapping theorem, ordinary differential equations, multiple integrals, and differential forms. My objective is to offer those learning and teaching analysis at the undergraduate level a large number of completed exercises and I hope that this book, which contains over 600 exercises covering the topics mentioned above, will achieve my goal. The exercises are an integral part of Lang's book and I encourage the reader to work through all of them. In some cases, the problems in the beginning chapters are used in later ones, for example, in Chapter IV when one constructs-bump functions, which are used to smooth out singulari ties, and prove that the space of functions is dense in the space of regu lated maps. The numbering of the problems is as follows. Exercise IX. 5. 7 indicates Exercise 7, §5, of Chapter IX. Acknowledgments I am grateful to Serge Lang for his help and enthusiasm in this project, as well as for teaching me mathematics (and much more) with so much generosity and patience.

This logically self-contained introduction to analysis centers around those properties that have to do with uniform convergence and uniform limits in the context of differentiation and integration. From the reviews: "This material can be gone over quickly by the really well-prepared reader, for it is one of the book’s pedagogical strengths that the pattern of development later recapitulates this material as it deepens and generalizes it." --AMERICAN MATHEMATICAL SOCIETY

The aim of Problems and Solutions for Undergraduate Real Analysis I, as the name reveals, is to assist undergraduate students or first-year students who study mathematics in learning their first rigorous real analysis course. The wide variety of problems, which are of varying difficulty, include the following topics: Elementary Set Algebra, the Real Number System, Countable and Uncountable Sets, Elementary Topology on Metric Spaces, Sequences in Metric Spaces, Series of Numbers, Limits and Continuity of Functions, Differentiation and the Riemann-Stieltjes Integral. Furthermore, the main features of this book are listed as follows: 1. The book contains 230 problems, which cover the topics mentioned above, with detailed and complete solutions. As a matter of fact, my solutions show every detail, every step and every theorem that I applied. 2. Each chapter starts with a brief and concise note of introducing the notations, terminologies, basic mathematical concepts or important/famous/frequently used theorems (without proofs) relevant to the topic. 3. Three levels of difficulty have been assigned to problems so that you can sharpen your mathematics step-by-step. 4. Different colors are used frequently in order to highlight or explain problems, examples, remarks, main points/formulas involved, or show the steps of manipulation in some complicated proofs. (ebook only) 5. An appendix about mathematical logic is included. It tells students what concepts of logic (e.g. techniques of proofs) are necessary in advanced mathematics.

This book "Problems and Solutions for Undergraduate Real Analysis II " is the continuum of the first book "Problems and Solutions for Undergraduate Real Analysis I ". Its aim is the same as its first book: We want to assist undergraduate students or first-year students who study mathematics in learning their first rigorous real analysis course. The wide variety of problems, which are of varying difficulty, include the following topics: Sequences and Series of Functions, Improper Integrals, Lebesgue Measure, Lebesgue Measurable Functions, Lebesgue Integration, Differential Calculus of Functions of Several Variables and Integral Calculus of Functions of Several Variables.Furthermore, the main features of this book are listed as follows: 1. The book contains 226 problems, which cover the topics mentioned above, with detailed and complete solutions. Particularly, we include over 100 problems for the Lebesgue integration theory which, I believe, is totally new to all undergraduate students. 4. Analysis underpins calculus, much as calculus underpins virtually all mathematical sciences. A sound understanding of analysis' results and techniques is therefore valuable for a wide range of disciplines both within mathematics itself and beyond its traditional boundaries. This text seeks to develop such an understanding for undergraduate students on mathematics and mathematically related programmes. Keenly aware of contemporary students' diversity of motivation, background knowledge and time pressures, it consistently strives to blend beneficial aspects of the workbook, the formal teaching text, and the informal and intuitive tutorial discussion. The authors devote ample space and time for development of confidence in handling the fundamental ideas of the topic. They also focus on learning through doing, presenting a comprehensive range of examples and exercises, some worked through in full detail, some supported by sketch solutions and hints, some left open to the reader's initiative. Without undervaluing the absolute necessity of secure logical argument, they legitimise the use of informal, heuristic, even imprecise initial explorations of problems aimed at deciding how to tackle them. In this respect they authors create an atmosphere like that of an apprenticeship, in which the trainee analyst can look over the shoulder of the experienced practitioner.

Education is an admirable thing, but it is well to remember from time to time that nothing worth knowing can be taught. Oscar Wilde, “The Critic as Artist,” 1890. Analysis is a profound subject; it is neither easy to understand nor summarize. However, Real Analysis can be discovered by solving problems. This book aims to give independent students the opportunity to discover Real Analysis by themselves through problem solving. ThedepthandcomplexityofthetheoryofAnalysiscanbeappreciatedbytakingaglimpseatits developmental history. Although Analysis was conceived in the 17th century during the Scienti?c Revolution, it has taken nearly two hundred years to establish its theoretical basis. Kepler, Galileo, Descartes, Fermat, Newton and Leibniz were among those who contributed to its genesis. Deep conceptual changes in Analysis were brought about in the 19th century by Cauchy and Weierstrass. Furthermore, modern concepts such as open and closed sets were introduced in the 1900s. Today nearly every undergraduate mathematics program requires at least one semester of Real Analysis. Often, students consider this course to be the most challenging or even intimidating of all their mathematics major requirements. The primary goal of this book is to alleviate those concerns by systematically solving the problems related to the core concepts of most analysis courses. In doing so, we hope that learning analysis becomes less taxing and thereby more satisfying.
