Problems of Conduct: An Introductory Survey of Ethics by Durant Drake offers a thorough exploration of ethical dilemmas and moral philosophy, making it an essential read for anyone seeking to understand the complexities of human behavior and decision-making. This comprehensive analysis delves into the fundamental questions that have puzzled thinkers throughout history. What is right and wrong? How should we act in a social context? Drake's work serves as a guide through the intricate landscape of morality, equipping readers with the tools to navigate the moral quandaries of modern life. Drake systematically examines various ethical theories, including utilitarianism, deontology, and virtue ethics, providing a balanced perspective on the strengths and weaknesses of each. Readers will appreciate how he contextualizes these theories within real-life scenarios, allowing for practical application and critical reflection. By offering a panoramic view of ethical considerations, Drake encourages readers to think critically about their own values and the principles that guide their actions. In an era where ethical dilemmas abound—ranging from personal choices to societal issues—Drake’s insights are profoundly relevant. He explores topics such as justice, individual rights, and the balance between personal freedom and social responsibility. As readers engage with these themes, they will encounter thought-provoking questions that challenge conventional wisdom and invite introspection. Moreover, Problems of Conduct is not merely a theoretical treatise; it also serves as a practical manual for ethical living. Drake emphasizes the importance of developing a personal code of ethics and encourages readers to apply ethical principles in their everyday interactions. This makes the book a valuable resource for students, professionals, and anyone interested in enhancing their moral reasoning skills. As an introduction to ethics, Drake's work stands out for its clarity and accessibility. He writes with an engaging style that demystifies complex ideas, making subtle philosophical concepts approachable for everyone. By bridging the gap between academic theories and everyday life, Problems of Conduct invites readers to participate in the ongoing conversation about morality and ethics in a rapidly changing world. Through this engaging survey of ethical issues, Durant Drake instills in readers a sense of responsibility towards their own moral choices, encouraging a deeper understanding of what it means to lead a good, ethical life. The book is a call to action for individuals to take ownership of their decisions and reflect on the impact those choices have on the broader community, thus fostering a more ethically aware society.

A concern for the ethical instruction and formation of students has always been a part of American higher education. Yet that concern has by no means been uniform or free from controversy. The centrality of moral philosophy in the undergraduate curriculum during the mid-19th Century gave way later during that era to the first signs of increasing specialization of the disciplines. By the middle of the 20th Century, instruction in ethics had, by and large, become confined almost exclusively to departments of philosophy and religion. Efforts to introduce ethics teaching in the professional schools and elsewhere in the university often met with indifference or outright hostility. The past decade has seen a remarkable resurgence of the interest in the teaching of ethics, at both the undergraduate and the professional school levels. Beginning in 1977, The Hastings Center, with the support of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund and the Carnegie Corporation of New York, undertook a system atic study of the state of the teaching of ethics in American higher education.

Few resources exist for those interested in developing their professional competence vis-à-vis ethics in forensic psychology, with the most recent text being published more than a decade ago. However, forensic psychology is changing quickly and there is a need for a current guide on ethics within the field. The Ethical Practice of Forensic Psychology highlights the ethical standards and guidelines set forth by the American Psychological Association's (APA) Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct (EPPCC) and the Specialty Guidelines for Forensic Psychology (SGFP). This Casebook provides readers with a practical review of these ethical standards and professional guidelines in the context of forensic case vignettes with corresponding commentary by leaders in the field. Concepts are presented using a best-practices model that encourages and promotes engaging in empirically supported decision-making. This volume is distinct from all others published in this area, given its inclusion and integration of a review of the ethical standards and guidelines contained in the EPPCC and SGFP, in addition to numerous types of ethical dilemmas encountered in forensic practice, a review of the relevant empirical literature and case law/legal statutes, and commentary by experts in forensic psychology. This unique Casebook will prove useful for a broad audience including academics in forensic psychology, psychology graduate and post-doctoral students and trainees, practitioners, mental health counselors, social workers, and legal professionals.
