Floating Ocean Platform written by Ronald N. Kostoff and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003-08-01 with categories.

In FY 1990, Congress directed the Secretary of the Navy to commission a study by the National Academy of Sciences for the production of an integrated technology plan for the evolution of aircraft carriers in the first half of the twenty-first century. The House-Senate conferees emphasized "that the product of this study is to be a technology plan for the evolution of sea bases for the most efficient and economical accommodation of tactical air power in the first half of the twenty-first century". Based on this broad charter of evaluating sea bases, an examination of the floating ocean platform concept was included in the study. The floating ocean platform is a generic description of a large, relatively stationary or slowly mobile, platform that can be positioned in most areas of the ocean, and can serve a variety of purposes. The present report was the author's input to the study. It was based on technical analyses, literature reviews and surveys, and discussions/visits with the main groups and organizations involved in developing the floating ocean platform. All discussion material was unclassified, as are the contents of this report. All the external inputs and discussions, too numerous to mention, made this report possible, and are greatly appreciated. The first part of this report is the summary narrative that was submitted by the author to the Technology Group of the study. The second part is the viewgraphs that were presented to the Technology Group by the author on 12 February 1991. The third part is a selected bibliography of studies on the floating ocean platform over the past two decades, with over three thousand references identified.

Wind energy technology has progressed enormously over the last decade. In coming years it will continue to develop in terms of power ratings, performance and installed capacity of large wind turbines worldwide, with exciting developments in offshore installations. Designed to meet the training needs of wind engineers, this introductory text puts wind energy in context, from the natural resource to the assessment of cost effectiveness and bridges the gap between theory and practice. The thorough coverage spans the scientific basics, practical implementations and the modern state of technology used in onshore and offshore wind farms for electricity generation. Key features: provides in-depth treatment of all systems associated with wind energy, including the aerodynamic and structural aspects of blade design, the flow of energy and loads through the wind turbine, the electrical components and power electronics including control systems explains the importance of wind resource assessment techniques, site evaluation and ecology with a focus of project planning and operation describes the integration of wind farms into the electric grid and includes a whole chapter dedicated to offshore wind farms includes questions in each chapter for readers to test their knowledge Written by experts with deep experience in research, teaching and industry, this text conveys the importance of wind energy in the international energy-policy debate, and offers clear insight into the subject for postgraduates and final year undergraduate students studying all aspects of wind engineering. Understanding Wind Power Systems is also an authoritative resource for engineers designing and developing wind energy systems, energy policy makers, environmentalists, and economists in the renewable energy sector.

This book presents the view of European wind energy experts on the long-term research challenges to be solved in order to develop wind energy beyond the applications of today and tomorrow. By this book, the European Academy of Wind Energy (eawe), representing universities and institutes with a significant wind energy programme in 14 countries, wants to: identify current technological and scientific barriers and to stimulate new creative ideas to overcome these barriers define priorities for future scientific research rethink our scientific view of wind energy stimulate the cooperation among researchers in fundamental and applied sciences towards wind energy research The eawe has discussed these long-term research with an explicit focus on a longer-term perspective, in contrast to research agendas addressing short- to medium-term research activities. In other words, this long-term research agenda is driven by problems and curiosity, addressing basic research and fundamental knowledge in 11 research areas, ranging from physics and design to environmental and societal aspects. Because of the very nature of this initiative, this document does not intend to be permanent or complete. It shows the vision of the experts of the European Academy of Wind Energy, but other views may be possible. The eawe sincerely hopes that it will spur an even more intensive discussion worldwide within the wind energy community.

Numerical Modelling Of Wave Energy Converters written by Matt Folley and has been published by Academic Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-06-14 with Technology & Engineering categories.

Numerical Modelling of Wave Energy Converters: State-of-the Art Techniques for Single WEC and Converter Arrays presents all the information and techniques required for the numerical modelling of a wave energy converter together with a comparative review of the different available techniques. The authors provide clear details on the subject and guidance on its use for WEC design, covering topics such as boundary element methods, frequency domain models, spectral domain models, time domain models, non linear potential flow models, CFD models, semi analytical models, phase resolving wave propagation models, phase averaging wave propagation models, parametric design and control optimization, mean annual energy yield, hydrodynamic loads assessment, and environmental impact assessment. Each chapter starts by defining the fundamental principles underlying the numerical modelling technique and finishes with a discussion of the technique’s limitations and a summary of the main points in the chapter. The contents of the chapters are not limited to a description of the mathematics, but also include details and discussion of the current available tools, examples available in the literature, and verification, validation, and computational requirements. In this way, the key points of each modelling technique can be identified without having to get deeply involved in the mathematical representation that is at the core of each chapter. The book is separated into four parts. The first two parts deal with modelling single wave energy converters; the third part considers the modelling of arrays; and the final part looks at the application of the different modelling techniques to the four most common uses of numerical models. It is ideal for graduate engineers and scientists interested in numerical modelling of wave energy converters, and decision-makers who must review different modelling techniques and assess their suitability and output. Consolidates in one volume information and techniques for the numerical modelling of wave energy converters and converter arrays, which has, up until now, been spread around multiple academic journals and conference proceedings making it difficult to access Presents a comparative review of the different numerical modelling techniques applied to wave energy converters, discussing their limitations, current available tools, examples, and verification, validation, and computational requirements Includes practical examples and simulations available for download at the book’s companion website Identifies key points of each modelling technique without getting deeply involved in the mathematical representation
