Processing of Solid-Liquid Suspensions is a collection of articles from several industrialists and academicians who are active in fundamental and applied research relating to handling and processing of particles in liquids. This collection of papers deals with the processes of interaction of particles with each other, with the surrounding liquid and process equipment, whereby knowledge of the mechanism of these interactions can be a sound basis for improving the design of the process equipment and create an optimum environment for the formation and processing of the particulate. The above notion is explained through analysis of the role of turbulent aggregation and breakup of particles in the formation of many solid products from aqueous solutions. This book also analyzes particle size and particulate crystals, whether as final products or as intermediates during processing. In the purification of proteins, two essential units of operation are used; precipitation and solid-liquid separation are analyzed, where theoretical considerations are reviewed. This text also discusses the application of model suspensions in the design of aerobic fermenters in practical industrial uses. High concentration of suspension preparations and solid suspension in liquid flourized beds or in stirred vessels are explained in more detail as to how these affect certain industries. This selection finally presents the progress made in developing design and methods needed by industry. Researchers, chemists, and scientists in industry, as well as advanced students with interests in formation and processing of stable suspensions and in advanced process engineering courses will find this textbook a valuable aid.

Solid Liquid Separation In The Mining Industry written by Fernando Concha A. and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-12-19 with Technology & Engineering categories.

This book covers virtually all of the engineering science and technological aspects of separating water from particulate solids in the mining industry. It starts with an introduction to the field of mineral processing and the importance of water in mineral concentrators. The consumption of water in the various stages of concentration is discussed, as is the necessity of recovering the majority of that water for recycling. The book presents the fundamentals under which processes of solid-liquid separation are studied, approaching mixtures of discrete finely divided solid particles in water as a basis for dealing with sedimentation in particulate systems. Suspensions, treated as continuous media, provide the basis of sedimentation, flows through porous media and filtration. The book also considers particle aggregations, and thickening is analyzed in depth. Lastly, two chapters cover the fundamentals and application of rheology and the transport of suspensions. This work is suitable for researchers and professionals in laboratories and plants, and can also serve as additional reading for graduate courses on solid liquid separation as well as for advanced undergraduate and graduate level students for courses of fluid mechanics, solid-liquid separation, thickening, filtration and transport of suspensions in tubes and channels.

Handbook Of Batch Process Design written by P.N. Sharratt and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-06 with Science categories.

Batch processes are used to manufacture many fine organic chemicals, and as such they can be considered to underpin much of the modern chemical industry. Despite widespread use and a consequent huge contribution to wealth creation, batch processes have attracted limited attention outside the user industries. Batch chemicals processing uses a number of core techniques and technologies, such as scheduling and sequence control, agitation and batch filtration. The combination of these technologies with often complex chemistry, the multi-purpose nature of much of this type of plant, the distinctive safety and environmental issues, and a fast moving commercial environment makes the development of a successful batch process a considerable challenge for the chemist or engineer. The literature on the topics covered in this book is fragmented and often not easily accessible, so this handbook has been written to address this problem and to bring together design and process analysismethods in the core areas of batch process design. By combining the science and pragmatism required in the development of successful batch processes this new book provides answers to real problems in an accessible and concise way. Written by an international team of authors drawn from industry, consulting and academe, this book is an essential part of the library of any chemist, technologist or engineer working on the development of new or existing batch processes.

In this volume, the third in a set specifically written for the industrial process and chemical engineer, the authors provide the detailed information on filtration equipment and media which allows the reader to then consider the pre-treatment of suspensions, selection of the most appropriate equipment for the task, data analysis and the subsequent design of the processes involved for particular separations. The result is a comprehensive book which is designed to be used frequently and referred to regularly in order to achieve better industrial separations.Successful industrial-scale separation of solids from liquids requires not only a thorough understanding of the principles involved, but also an appreciation of which equipment to use for best effect, and a start-to-finish plan for the various processes involved in the operation. If these factors are all correct, then successful separations should result. - Part of 3-volume set - Unique approach to industrial separations - Internationally-known authors

Food Process Engineering written by H.A. Leniger and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-06 with Technology & Engineering categories.

This book resulted from many years of teaching engineering aspects of food tech nology at the Agricultural University ofWageningen, The Netherlands. In the course of those years the subject matter of teaching has been written down and placed at the student's disposal. The Dutch text has been reconsidered and revised several times. Eventually the question arose whether it would be advisable to transform and translate the text in order to transfer available knowledge and experience to others interested in the relatively new branch of food science that food process engineering is. This question has been answered in the affirmative. Up to now only a few books deal with food process engineering; some are rather superficial and evidently meant as introductory, other ones have in our opinion too much emphasis on chemical engineering and too little on food process engineering. We believe - and this will be elucidated at some length in the Introduction - that food process engineering is in many respects a very specific branch of engineering, allied to but certainly different from chemical engineering. We have always endeav oured to show similarities between various branches, stressing at the same time how ever the differences and explaining the why and wherefore of them. The present book illustrates this approach. It considers engineering, process en gineering and food process engineering as ranking in this order of rising importance.

Ohmic Heating In Food Processing written by Hosahalli S. Ramaswamy and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-02-14 with Technology & Engineering categories.

Ohmic heating provides rapid and uniform heating, resulting in less thermal damage than conventional heating and allowing manufacturers to obtain high-quality products with minimum sensorial, nutritional, and structural changes. Ohmic Heating in Food Processing covers several aspects of Ohmic heating: science and engineering, chemistry and physics, biochemistry and nutrition, quality and safety, and development and technology, both basic and applied. It describes the importance of Ohmic technology and how to implement it in practice, addressing basic theory, principles, and applications. Divided into nine sections, this volume covers the basics of Ohmic heating, including a historic overview and fundamental principles; electrical conductivity, its importance, factors that influence it, and data modeling; biological effects of electricity on foods and food components, including microorganisms, enzymes, proteins, carbohydrates, and fats; and Ohmic heating behavior and design parameters. The book also deals with issues in Ohmic heating equipment, Ohmic heating modeling issues, and process validation issues. The authors discuss various applications of Ohmic heating applied to different classes of foods, such as muscle foods (meat, poultry, and fish), dairy products, fruits, and vegetables. They also examine commercially successful applications of food products processed by Ohmic heating and considers applications of Ohmic heating where preservation is not the main focus, for example, blanching, Ohmic thawing, and the potential for Ohmic heating for long-duration space missions.
