""" This book has been written as a guide to the management and use of formulated feeds in intensive fish and shrimp culture. While its focus is on the use of commercially pro duced feeds in intensive production systems, it is anticipated that many of the practical issues covered will be of equal interest to those fish farmers who make their own feeds and to those who use formulated feeds in less intensive systems. Feeds and feeding are the major variable operating costs in intensive aquaculture and the book is primarily in tended to aid decision making by fish farm managers in areas of feeding policy. The dramatic increases in aquaculture production seen over the past 15 years have been made possible, in large part, by gains in our understanding of the food and feed ing requirements of key fish and shrimp species. A global aquaculture feeds industry has developed and a wide range of specialist feeds is now sold. The new options in feeds and feeding systems, which are becoming available, necessitate continual review by farmers of their feeding policies, where choices must be made as to appropriate feed types and feeding methods. O estudo teve o objetivo de verificar o efeito do cultivo em tanque-rede sobre a densidade, riqueza e biomassa da comunidade zooplanctônica, em um reservatório subtropical, Itá, situado no Alto do rio Uruguai (SC/RS), durante o período de outubro/2009 a maio/2010. Foram realizadas amostragens mensais em duas profundidades do reservatório, superfície e fundo, com o auxílio da garrafa Van Dorn e rede de plâncton (68?m) em dois pontos: área controle e área de cultivo de peixe em tanque-rede. A área de cultivo apresentou maiores densidades e biomassa zooplanctônicas na camada superficial em relação à área controle durante o período compreendido entre outubro e janeiro, essa diferença significativa (p0,05) entre os pontos confirma o efeito do cultivo em tanques redes sobre a comunidade zooplanctônica. Apesar disso, no período posterior (fevereiro a maio) os pontos apresentaram semelhança na abundância, assim como os valores registrados no fundo em ambos os pontos que foram semelhantes durante todo o período de estudo (p0,05). A composição zooplanctônica foi semelhante entre as áreas estudadas, sendo assim o reservatório de Itá assumiu uma característica homogenia na riqueza com um total de 64 táxons ao longo do estudo, tendo destaque aos rotíferos pela sua maior contribuição (45 táxons). O grupo mais abundante foi o Copepoda sendo registradas densidades de até 274,58 ind./L, sendo a ordem Calanoida predominante em relação à ordem Cyclopoida. Os valores de biomassa zooplanctônica registrados variaram entre 131,56 μg/L e 6,47 μg/L. Esse mesmo grupo também foi o que mais contribuiu nos valores de biomassa total, principalmente nas formas de náuplios e copepoditos, sendo 127,56 μg/L o maior valor registrado para a ordem Calanoida, diferente da contribuição dos rotíferos que apresentou biomassa máxima de 2,01 μg/L. Conclui-se que houve o efeito do cultivo de peixes em tanque-rede sobre a comunidade zooplanctônica no primeiro período, sendo que a partir do mês de fevereiro houve redução da vazão de água do reservatório,assim como nos valores de clorofila e aumento da transparência. Esses fatores, possivelmente, influenciaram na redução da densidade e biomassa em todas as áreas amostradas e com isso o cultivo de peixes deixou de afetar a biomassa do zooplâncton.
