Production Economics written by Chauncey T. K. Ching and has been published by Transaction Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1985-01-01 with Political Science categories.

By combining information from microeconomics, mathematics, production functions, and temporal and spatial related production analyses, this book provides a variety of essential information to agricultural economics, economics, and business students. Empirical application of production theory and technique is presented at great length; actual data collected from various agricultural enterprises and experiments are used for production function analyses; and methodological and statistical problems commonly encountered in empirical research are carefully addressed. This book fulfills two great needs in the agricultural economics profession: a textbook suitable for senior-level and graduate students that develops and illustrates how calculus and linear algebra can be used in understanding production economics; and for a scholarly work that illustrates empirical applications and results of production function analyses and production theory.

This study is the result of an interest in the economic theory of production intermittently pursued during the past three years. Over this period I have received substantial support from the Office of Naval Research, first from a personal service consulting contract directly with the Mathematics Division of the Office of Naval Research and secondly from Project N6 onr-27009 at Princeton Univer sity under the direction of Professor Oskar Morgenstern. Grateful acknowledgement is made to the ·Office of Naval Research for this support and to Professor Morgenstern, in particular, for his interest in the puolication of this research. The responsibility for errors and omissions, how ever, rests entirely upon the author. Professor G. C. Evans has given in terms of a simple total cost function, depending solely upon output rate, a treatment of certain aspects of the economic theory of production which has inherent generality and convenience of formulation. The classical approach of expressing the technology of production by means of a production function is potentially less restrictive than the use of a simple total cost function, but it has not been applied in a more general form other than to derive the familiar conditions between marginal productivities of the factors of produc tion and their market prices.

This book about mathematics and methodology for economics is the result of the lifelong experience of the authors. It is written for university students as well as for students of applied sciences. This self-contained book does not assume any previous knowledge of high school mathematics and helps understanding the basics of economic theory-building. Starting from set theory it thoroughly discusses linear and non-linear functions, differential equations, difference equations, and all necessary theoretical constructs for building sound economic models. The authors also present a solid introduction to linear optimisation and game theory using production systems. A detailed discussion on market equilibrium, in particular on Nash Equilibrium, and on non-linear optimisation is also provided. Throughout the book the student is well supplied with numerous examples, some 2000 problems and their solutions to apply the knowledge to economic theories and models.

Mathematical Optimization And Economic Theory written by Michael D. Intriligator and has been published by SIAM this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1971-01-01 with Mathematics categories.

Mathematical Optimization and Economic Theory provides a self-contained introduction to and survey of mathematical programming and control techniques and their applications to static and dynamic problems in economics, respectively. It is distinctive in showing the unity of the various approaches to solving problems of constrained optimization that all stem back directly or indirectly to the method of Lagrange multipliers. In the 30 years since its initial publication, there have been many more applications of these mathematical techniques in economics, as well as some advances in the mathematics of programming and control. Nevertheless, the basic techniques remain the same today as when the book was originally published. Thus, it continues to be useful not only to its original audience of advanced undergraduate and graduate students in economics, but also to mathematicians and other researchers interested in learning about the applications of the mathematics of optimization to economics. The book covers in some depth both static programming problems and dynamic control problems of optimization and the techniques of their solution. It also clearly presents many applications of these techniques to economics, and it shows why optimization is important for economics. Audience: mathematicians and other researchers who are interested in learning about the applications of mathematical optimization in economics, as well as students at the advanced undergraduate and beginning graduate level. A basic knowledge of analysis and matrix algebra is recommended. Two appendices summarize the necessary mathematics.

Excerpt from A Partial Equilibrium Model of Derived Demand for Production Factor Inputs Estimates were based on the assumption that observed factor demands were in equilibrium. In this study we use a partial equilibrium factor demand model of the technology and thereby test the validity of the equilibrium assumption. The results are also used to reconcile the question of whether earlier results pertain to the short run or the long run.
