Buku ini merupakan pengembangan dari catatan kuliah Mekanika Kuantum Relativistik serta catatan diskusi penelitian produksi kaon melalui interaksi elektromagnetik untuk tingkat Sarjana S1, di Departemen Fisika, FMIPA UI. Topik penelitian produksi kaon masih cukup hangat, karena data baru selalu bermunculan. Bahkan, data dari Jefferson Lab, USA, baru dipublikasi setahun sebelum buku ini selesai ditulis. Untuk memahami proses fotoproduksi dan elektroproduksi kaon diperlukan latar belakang pengetahuan yang kuat tentang Mekanika Kuantum Relativistik. Pengetahuan tambahan tentang Teori Medan Kuantum dan Kromodinamika Kuantum tentu saja akan sangat baik jika dimiliki oleh para mahasiswa yang akan meneliti topik tersebut. Namun, pengetahuan dasar yang minimal dibutuhkan adalah kinematika hamburan dalam notasi relativistik, aturan diagram Feynman, serta pengenalan sedikit tentang eksperimen yang telah dilakukan di beberapa laboratorium yang memiliki akselerator. Tidak dapat disangkal juga bahwa untuk memahami Mekanika Kuantum Relativistik diperlukan pengetahuan yang cukup kuat juga tentang Mekanika Kuantum Non-Relativistik. Hal inilah yang mendasari dimasukkannya Elemen Mekanika Kuantum Non-Relativistik di Bab pertama buku ini. Buku ini tidak memberikan contoh soal dan latihan soal, karena isi buku ini merupakan penurunan dari formulasi-formulasi penting yang secara implisit merupakan soalsoal yang sering ditemukan di buku-buku teks Mekanika Kuantum Relativistik dan non-Relativistik. Para mahasiswa yang akan membaca buku ini tentu saja diharapkan menyediakan pensil dan kertas yang cukup banyak. Mayoritas isi buku ini bukan untuk dibaca, melainkan untuk diturunkan formulasinya. Bab pertama buku ini membahas persamaan Schrödinger, persamaan Maxwell, transformasi dan invariansi tera, serta pertanyaan apakah persamaan Schrödinger bersifat invarian tera. Bab pertama ini diakhiri dengan teori gangguan bebas- dan bergantung-waktu yang dipakai untuk menurunkan formula penampang lintang Rutherford, yang selanjutnya menjadi patokan perbandingan dengan penampang lintang hamburan relativistik, hasil perhitungan persamaan Klein-Gordon dan persamaan Dirac. Pembahasan Mekanika Kuantum Relativistik pada Bab kedua meliputi pengenalan mekanika relativistik, meliputi transformasi Galilean dan transformasi Lorentz. Persamaan Klein-Gordon dan Dirac diberikan setelahnya. Bab tiga dan empat menampilkan penurunan formulasi-formulasi amplitudo transisi serta penampang lintang proses fotoproduksi dan elektroproduksi kaon. Penurunan amplitudo transisi dibuat lengkap, eksplisit dan jelas, guna membantu mahasiswa untuk mengerti proses produksi kaon melalui interaksi elektromagnetik sedetail-detailnya. Selain teori pseudoskalar yang umum digunakan, teori preudovektor juga akan dibahas di Bab tiga.

The idea of neutrino oscillations was suggested in 1957 by B Pontecorvo, immediately after the discovery of parity violation in b-decay.
