Dit boek biedt eerst een kort, maar bijzonder zorgvuldig overzicht van de geschiedenis van de kinderpsychiatrie tot ongeveer 1950. Dit vormt de aanloop tot een sterk gedocumenteerd relaas over het rijkgevulde beroepsleven van prof. dr. Piet Fontaine (°1924). Fontaine is een pionier op het gebied van de kinderpsychiatrie en de psychotherapie in België. Hij studeerde eerst kindergeneeskunde in Straatsburg en daarna kinderpsychiatrie in Leiden en in Utrecht. Fontaine vestigde zich in 1957 als de eerste kinderpsychiater in Leuven, werd het eerste hoofd van de Dienst voor Kinderpsychiatrie in het Universitaire Ziekenhuis St.-Rafaël in Leuven en bouwde, als perfect tweetalige, een academische carrière uit aan de KU Leuven en de UCLouvain. Hij was als kind gefascineerd door spel en speelgoed en werd later een befaamd speltherapeut. Maar al snel onderkende hij ook de behoefte aan begeleiding van de ouders. Al speelde Fontaine ook een belangrijke rol bij de professionalisering van de residentiële zorg voor kinderen met beperkingen, zijn grootste wapenfeit is ongetwijfeld dat hij achtereenvolgens de groepstherapie, het psychodrama en de gezinstherapie heeft geïntroduceerd in België. Therapieën waarin hij internationale faam wist te verwerven. Zijn hele leven getuigt ook van een groot sociaal engagement en diepe bekommernis voor gezinnen in armoede. Tot vandaag streeft hij ernaar in het kader van ATD (All Together in Dignity) de armen een volwaardige stem te geven.

A brief historical account of the background leading to the publication of the first four editions of the World Directory of Crystallographers was presented by G. Boom in his preface to the Fourth Edition, published late in 1971. That edition was produced by traditional typesetting methods from compilations of biographical data prepared by national Sub-Editors. The major effort required to produce a directory by manual methods provided the impetus to use computer techniques for the Fifth Edition. The account of the production of the first computer assisted Directory was described by S.C. Abrahams in the preface of the Fifth Edition. Computer composition, which required a machine readable data base, offered several major advantages. The choice of typeface and range of characters was flexible. Corrections and additions to the data base were rapid and, once established, it was hoped updating for future editions would be simple and inexpensive. The data base was put to other Union uses, such as preparation of mailing labels and formulation of lists of crystallographers with specified common fields of interest. The Fifth Edition of the World Directory of Crystallographers was published in June of 1977, the Sixth in May of 1981. The Subject Indexes for the Fifth and Sixth Editions were printed in 1978 and 1981 respectively, both having a limited distribution.

Aristotle’s Meteorology: a twin set in Mediaeval Text Tradition. The Greek text of Aristotle’s Meteorology is in places highly problematic. Its edition by Fobes (1922), however, is a highlight in editorial technique. The Arabic version (c.800) is of quite different form and content. The two editions by Badawi (1961) and Petraitis (1967) were subject to considerable improvement. The present edition was done on the basis of the two extant Arabic manuscripts. The edition of the Latin translation (12th c.) from the Arabic has been constituted on the basis of 5 manuscript sources, out of 110 copies. The status of both the Arabic and the Latin texts was bad, but not hopeless: as the Latin version stands near to its Arabic predecessor, the text of the latter gives support to the editing of the text, as well as for the understanding of the contents. And this procedure works vice versa. The present edition of the texts has been completed with an Index of technical terms in Arabic, Greek and Latin and Registers on the Greek and Latin. Further a Bibliography and List of Latin manuscripts are presented.
