Gustave Le Gray 1820 1884 written by Sylvie Aubenas and has been published by Getty Publications this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002 with Art categories.

Gustave Le Gray's life was as romantic as any novel. A young painter in Rome, then a fashionable portrait photographer in Paris, Le Gray received commissions from Napoleon III, and astonished viewers with his painterly landscapes and ravishing seascapes. Facing bankruptcy, he fled Paris with Alexandre Dumas to Palermo, traveled to the Middle East, and finally settled in Egypt, where he became drawing master to the ruler's children and continued to make photographs until his death in 1884. Le Gray's work had remained largely unknown by the general public until he was rediscovered in the 1960s and was deemed by connoisseurs to be the Monet of photography. The fruit of years of research, this complete retrospective offers, as no volume before it, an assessment of Le Gray's important place in the history of photography. This catalogue was originally published in French to accompany the exhibition Gustave Le Gray, Photographer (1820-1884) at the Bibliotheque Nationale in spring 2002. This English-language edition, edited by Gordon Baldwin, associate curator of photographs at the Getty Museum, coincides with an abridged version of the same exhibition at the Getty Museum that will run from July 9 to September 29, 2002."

Maanantai is formed by a group of young photographers from Helsinki. Challenging the notion of authorship with a body of work made by one common author and his 16 eyes, it is a poetical and absurd topographical exploration of the notion of distance and scales - latitude versus altitude. Nine Nameless Mountains is built as a playful and discrete collection of photographs mixing various methods of image making -from traditional analog photography, to video stills, laser prints, drawings or mobile phone shots; they are the traces of small experiences, hazardous observations and improvised happenings. 0Exhibition: Finnish Photography Museum, Helsinki, Finnland (24.5.-1.9.2013) / Alt. + 1 - High altitude photography festival, Rossinière, Switzerland (13.7.-22.9.2013).

This text looks at Robert Capa's colour photography, a little-known but important aspect of the great photographer's work, and includes many never-before-published images. Capa regularly used colour film from the 1940s until his death in 1954. Some of these photographs were published in magazines of the day, but the majority have never been printed, seen, or even studied. "Capa in Color" presents this work an integral part of his post-war career and fundamental in remaining relevant to magazines.

Domingo Milella written by Domingo Milella and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-02-28 with Photography, Artistic categories.

"It's hard to talk about photography without facing issues of time, memory and death - not as stereotypical archetypes, but as challenging and malleable entities of culture and nature." Domingo Milella This first published monograph by Domingo Milella is a photographic journey from his hometown in the outskirts of Bari in southern Italy, taking us to Mexico City, Cairo, Ankara, Anatolia, Sicily, Tunisia, and as far as Mesopotamia. Milella's subject is cities and their borders, cemeteries and villages, caves and homes, tombs and hieroglyphs - in short, signs of man's presence on earth. His interest is the overlap between civilisation and nature, and how landscape and architecture are invested with individual and collective memory. These photographs emerge from and challenge classical ideas of landscape in art history, and seek an alternative iconography in which an almost forgotten past coexists with the present. Says Milella: "Making images doesn't only mean documenting or taking photographs. It's also a possibility for contemplation and recollection. Building an image of the past is to face the present, and activate the possibility of the future."

Working in 1970s Italy, a group of artists—namely Ugo La Pietra, Maurizio Nannucci, Francesco Somaini, Mauro Staccioli, Franco Summa, and Franco Vaccari—sought new spaces to create and exhibit art. Looking beyond the gallery, they generated sculptural, conceptual, and participatory interventions, called Arte Ambientale (Environmental Art), situated in the city streets. Their experiments emerged at a time of cultural crisis, when fierce domestic terrorism aggravated an already fragile political situation. To confront the malaise, these artists embraced a position of artistic autonomy and social critique, democratically connecting the city's inhabitants through direct art practices.

Holy Bible written by Adam Broomberg and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013 with Artists' books categories.

Violence, calamity and the absurdity of war are recorded extensively within The Archive of Modern Conflict, the largest photographic collection of its kind in the world. For their most recent work, Holy Bible, Adam Broomberg and Oliver Chanarin mined this archive with philosopher Adi Ophir's central tenet in mind: that God reveals himself predominantly through catastrophe and that power structures within the Bible correlate with those within modern systems of governance. - The format of Broomberg and Chanarin's illustrated Holy Bible mimics both the precise structure and the physical form of the King James Version. By allowing elements of the original text to guide their image selection, the artists explore themes of authorship, and the unspoken criteria used to determine acceptable evidence of conflict. - Inspired in part by the annotations and images Bertolt Brecht added to his own personal bible, Broomberg and Chanarin's publication questions the clichés at play within the visual representation of conflict.
