The capability of traditional platforms, such as well plate, does not match researchers’ demands for precise and creative experiments any more. Direct detection and analysis of biomolecules and cells in physiological microenvironment is urgently needed for fast evaluation of biology and pharmacy. The past several years have witnessed remarkable development opportunities in vitro organs and tissues models with multiple functions based on microfluidic devices, termed as “organ-on-a-chip”. It is a promising technology in rebuilding physiological functions of tissues and organs, featuring mammalian cell co-culture and artificial microenvironment created by microchannel networks. An attempt has been made in this Booklet to summarize the advances in studies of heart-, vessel-, liver-, neuron-, kidney- and Multi-organs-on-a-chip and discuss some noteworthy potential on-chip detection schemes along with several illustrations. Further, related techniques of organs and tissues of great interest to drug developers, such as heart, vessel, liver, neuron, and kidney are also being covered. …… Dr. H.K.Saboowala. Numerous teaching, learning, assessment, and institutional innovations in undergraduate science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education have emerged in the past decade. Because virtually all of these innovations have been developed independently of one another, their goals and purposes vary widely. Some focus on making science accessible and meaningful to the vast majority of students who will not pursue STEM majors or careers; others aim to increase the diversity of students who enroll and succeed in STEM courses and programs; still other efforts focus on reforming the overall curriculum in specific disciplines. In addition to this variation in focus, these innovations have been implemented at scales that range from individual classrooms to entire departments or institutions. By 2008, partly because of this wide variability, it was apparent that little was known about the feasibility of replicating individual innovations or about their potential for broader impact beyond the specific contexts in which they were created. The research base on innovations in undergraduate STEM education was expanding rapidly, but the process of synthesizing that knowledge base had not yet begun. If future investments were to be informed by the past, then the field clearly needed a retrospective look at the ways in which earlier innovations had influenced undergraduate STEM education. To address this need, the National Research Council (NRC) convened two public workshops to examine the impact and effectiveness of selected STEM undergraduate education innovations. This volume summarizes the workshops, which addressed such topics as the link between learning goals and evidence; promising practices at the individual faculty and institutional levels; classroom-based promising practices; and professional development for graduate students, new faculty, and veteran faculty. The workshops concluded with a broader examination of the barriers and opportunities associated with systemic change.

In the last decades, digitalization has been enormously pushing innovation with a stunning impact on economy and society. In this book, the author illustrates that blockchain is one strong driver of the future digital economy, enabling a higher level of efficiency, trust, and legal security. As regulation can decide how a jurisdiction can participate in this development, the author discusses the current and future regulatory challenges and explains, why applying financial market laws for all Token Economy is not appropriate and would hinder its development. Consequently, he argues for a new regulatory fundament for Token Economy - as the Principality of Liechtenstein has introduced in 2020 - and explains the political regulatory decisions of the so-called »Blockchain-Act«. The author pleads also in favour of establishing a new regulatory framework for Token Financial Markets and drafts its cornerstones. In addition to that, he describes the need for an innovation process for the legal framework and emphasizes the importance of the innovation culture of governments and authorities to keep pace with the technological developments and ensure future prosperity.

From Biofiltration To Promising Options In Gaseous Fluxes Biotreatment written by Gabriela Soreanu and has been published by Elsevier this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-04-03 with Technology & Engineering categories.

From Biofiltration to Promising Options in Gaseous Fluxes Biotreatment: Recent Developments, New Trends, Advances, and Opportunities provides an overview on the biological tools used for the treatment of the gaseous fluxes, with emphasis on traditional and perspective options, opening new horizons for research and implementation in practice. It is known that air pollution is an emergent global issue and a priority within the international environmental programs. Moreover, technologies based on biological methods are significantly contributing to the sustainable development concept. Thus this book provides tools for solving air pollution issues in a sustainable manner. These issues can be solved at different levels (e.g., "end-of-pipe" gaseous streams, indoor/outdoor air, closed environments), which can be approached by the different biotechniques presented in the book, from classical biofiltration techniques (part 1) to phytotreatment and microalgae-based techniques (part 2). Although all options have their particularities that make them special for certain applications, a special attention is drawn to the potential of the last one, which offers multiple possibilities for biomass valorization. Scientists from worldwide with relevant experience in their field have been contributed to the development of this book. Presents the main biotechnological aspects applied for gas purification, focusing on process understanding, limitations, and capability in different applications Promotes a sustainable future of the biofiltration process by enhancing their performance together with the simultaneously economic and environmental impacts Implements new aspects of scientific research and development in the field
