Ce travail a pour objet d'apporter quelques compléments d'information sur les mécanismes de frottement intervenant en présence de produits interfaciaux. Nous essayons de donner une approche du comportement tribologique de milieux granulaires modèles, renommés pour leur pouvoir abrasif ou lubrifiant, quand ils sont introduits volontairement dans l'interface de frottement. Les propriétés tribologiques de ces milieux sont appréhendées à partir de leurs propriétés granulométriques, géométriques, physico-chimiques et rhéologiques, à partir des états caractéristiques des surfaces qui délimitent l'interface et de considérations sur les discontinuités interfaciales. L'analyse des propriétés rhéologiques des milieux abrasifs, de leur possibilité de modification granulométrique et de leur comportement abrasif local permet d'expliquer certains comportements tribologiques. La morphologie d'écoulement des milieux granulaires lubrifiants peut être également interprétée par l'évolution de leurs propriétés rhéologiques avec l'état des contraintes régnant dans l'interface, par la localisation des discontinuités interfaciales (surfaces de rupture et/ou de frottement) et par la sélectivité micro- et macrogéométrique de l'interface. Nous mettons en évidence différentes étapes dans la cinétique de constitution et de dégradation des produits interfaciaux et nous nous attachons plus particulièrement à déterminer la genèse et la longévité de films protecteurs ainsi que l'usure des surfaces frottantes.
