Esta obra aborda el tema de la competitividad desde una perspectiva territorial, primero descubre el estado del arte y sistematiza los enfoques y criterios que se emplean en el análisis de la competitividad, principalmente desde la visión del desarrollo territorial. De igual forma, el texto profundiza sobre el enfoque de capital territorial y el papel que cumple en el logro de la competitividad, elemento que explica en buena medida el posicionamiento y desempeño de los territorios en términos de sus activos físicos e intangibles. Luego, tomando como punto de partida la importancia del capital territorial para la competitividad, se abordan sus distintos componentes que expresan las variadas dimensiones de los territorios, a saber: económica, social, cultural, medio ambiente y político-institucional. A continuación, se muestra el capital territorial con el que cuenta la región centro del Estado de Guanajuato, se presenta un desglose de los componentes del capital territorial, con una desegregación de indicadores a escala municipal y se realiza un análisis de éste capital que devela las capacidades diferenciales de dichos componentes y cómo influyen en las condiciones de capital territorial de los municipios estudiados. En suma, la obra permite comprender los factores que inciden en el desempeño de los territorios y sus capacidades competitivas en un mundo globalizado.

This book engages with the politics of social and environmental justice, and seeks new ways to think about the future of urbanization in the twenty-first century. It describes how geographical differences are produced, and shows how they then become fundamental to the exploration of political, economic and ecological alternatives to contemporary life. The book is divided into four parts. Part I describes the problematic nature of action and analysis at different scales of time and space, and introduces the reader to the modes of dialectical thinking and discourse which are used throughout the remainder of the work.
