Dr. Yuyung Abdi telah menerobos sekat-sekat sulit yang challenging (menantang) dan berbau privat untuk mengungkap fenomena pekerja seks dan industri seks di Indonesia (dan inilah karya pertama di Indonesia bahkan di Asia dan internasional) yang mengungkap data tentang eksistensi keberadaan industri seks (prostitusi) di berbagai daerah di Indonesia dan di kelas-kelas sosial masyarakat urban di Indonesia. Melalui riset 10 tahun (2 tahun dalam penyelesaian riset untuk Master/S2 dan 8 tahun untuk riset Doktoral/S3), Yuyung Abdi berhasil melakukan studi terkait dengan industri seks dalam pendekatan kajian media (Media Cultural Studies) yang belum pernah dilakukan oleh akademisi dan ilmuwan Indonesia. Melalui kajian Lens Phenomenology, yang juga merupakan metode penulisan baru yang belum pernah dilakukan ilmuwan Ilmu Sosial, Seni, dan Humaniora di Indonesia, bahkan di Internasional, studi yang dilakukan Yuyung Abdi ini adalah “breakthrough” bagi studi-studi Media dan Budaya di Indonesia & internasional. Buku ini membuktikan lensa kamera sebagai “regime” penglihatan menjadi alat metodologi untuk mengungkap fenomena sosial masyarakat.
