Belief after Freud confronts the psychoanalytic experience and the experience of faith. El psicoanálisis ha supuesto un fuerte impacto en la visión del ser humano que pudiéramos tener antes de Freud. Constituye, sin duda, una revolución antropológica de la que la filosofía y otras ciencias humanas se hicieron eco, pero que no encontró siempre en la teología y la espiritualidad la misma resonancia. Miedos y fantasmas de todo tipo impedían dejarse interrogar por la gran cuestión psicoanalítica del inconsciente. En esta obra, el autor pretende precisamente abrir el campo de la experiencia cristiana a dicha interrogación, planteando de modo incisivo lo que puede significar de cara a temas tan fundamentales como la imagen de Dios, la salvación, el pecado, la figura de María, etc. Pero, dado que esencialmente se trata de interpelar una experiencia y no de establecer una mera especulación teórica (tantas veces de carácter defensivo), se abordan también cuestiones como las de la eventual sanidad o patología de las experiencias de fe, las relaciones íntimas entre la vida del deseo y la creencia, el papel de la angustia en el desarrollo de la religiosidad o las diversas modalidades de la identidad creyente. Su autor, Tomáš Špidlík, SJ (Boskovice, Moravia, 1919), es doctor en Teología y profesor emérito del Pontificio Instituto Oriental y de la Universidad Gregoriana (Roma), en los que ha impartido durante largos años clases sobre espiritualidad patrística y oriental. Es miembro honorario de la Sociedad de Estudios Bizantinos y consultor de las Congregaciones para las Causas de los Santos y para las Iglesias Orientales. Actualmente también colabora en el Centro Aletti, dedicado al intercambio y al diálogo entre las iglesias oriental y occidental.
