Das vorliegende Buch ist das Teilergebnis einer dreijährigen Forschungsarbeit, die die Autoren, ein multidisziplinäres Team aus einem Psychiater und zwei Soziologen, im Rahmen des Nordrhein-Westfälischen Forschungsverbundes Public Health (Projekt C4: Evaluation gerontopsychiatrischer Zentren und vergleichbarer gerontopsychiatrischer Verbundsysteme unter besonderer Be rücksichtigung des Lebensweges alter Menschen nach gerontopsychiatrischer Behandlung, Projektleitung: Prof. Dr. Günther Steinkamp) an der Universität Bielefeld durchgefiihrt haben. Es liefert ein differenziertes Bild über den sozialen und somatisch-psych iatrischen Status, über den damit zusammenhängenden Umfang der Hilfs- und Pflege bedürftigkeit und über die Behandlungskarriere psychisch gestörter älterer Menschen (60-jährige +), die innerhalb eines Jahres aus teilstationärer und stationärer gerontopsychiatrischer Behandlung entlassen wurden oder sich weiter in ambulanter Behandlung befanden. Im Mittelpunkt der Untersuchung stehen die Analyse der sozialen Netzwerkbeziehungen dieser alten Menschen, die aus ihnen resultierenden Unterstützungsleistungen (aber auch Belastungen) und die Frage, welche Konsequenzen eine AusdÜllllung und Schwächung sozialer Netzwerke fiir die Aufrechterhaltung privater, nicht-institutionalisierter Lebensweise und Versorgungs formen hat.
