From the FOREWORD by Dan G. Blazer, M.D., Ph.D. Professor of Psychiatry, Duke University Medical Center "Occasionally, a writer on psychology and biblical faith comes along who can work 'from the center.' J. Christopher Garrison is such a writer. Let me explain what I mean by working from the center. No person who is thoroughly committed to his or her religious faith can really put that faith aside and work with scientific objectivity in blending the essence of that faith with the subject matter of empirical science. Even if someone could, I doubt that the project would be of great interest. Such a person would not be someone I would define as working from the center. A person who can work from the center in blending psychology and biblical faith is a person who can work not so much from the center of extremes as from the center of their being-from their spirit if you will. This ability shows itself when one has opened his or her innermost being to the Spirit of God and his or her mind and reason to modern psychology and truly grasped as a result the principles and concepts of what psychology is really about. This is what Garrison has achieved. In Garrison's Psychology of the Spirit, psychology is not so much integrated as it is enriched. Reading the end product deepens one's faith and one's understanding. Such a psychology is not the mere providing of formulas for meeting daily life crises. It is instead the total unfolding and renewal of one's inner being."

While not all aspects of Carl Gustav Jung's work have aged well, many of his ideas remain consistent with current concepts in behavioral psychology and neuroscience. Psychology of the Spirit reviews the lasting effects of Jung's work and how it integrates with modern neuroscience, cognitive and behavioral studies, and Christian theology. It combines the mystical insights developed by Eastern Orthodox Christian theology with Jung's vision of the psyche and the concept of the collective unconscious and its archetypes. Though written as a contribution to the field of psychology and as a tool for clinical practice, it is also accessible to lay readers interested in the relationship between the mind and the brain....

What does it mean to be enlightened or spiritually awakened? In The Leap, Steve Taylor shows that this state is much more common than is generally believed. He shows that ordinary people — from all walks of life — can and do regularly “wake up” to a more intense reality, even if they know nothing about spiritual practices and paths. Wakefulness is a more expansive and harmonious state of being that can be cultivated or that can arise accidentally. It may also be a process we are undergoing collectively. Drawing on his years of research as a psychologist and on his own experiences, Taylor provides what is perhaps the clearest psychological study of the state of wakefulness ever published. Above all, he reminds us that it is our most natural state — accessible to us all, anytime, anyplace.

Spirit And Form written by Benjamin M. Goldberg and has been published by iUniverse this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-12-16 with Psychology categories.

Each individual is unique, and that uniqueness should be cultivated. In Spirit and Form, author and psychologist Dr. Benjamin M. Goldberg offers a thorough analysis of individuality and its development. Formed during thirty-five years of study, Goldberg has developed the art of psychological sculpting. His theory is that an individual should not be changed or fixed, but rather the process must be like the art of sculpting stone. Spirit and Form includes a detailed analysis of how this process of articulation, as the principle of spiritual fulfillment, personal happiness, and mental health, is either cultivated or thwarted. Goldberg emphasizes the critical distinction between the psychological impact of didactic and dialectical relationships and the artificiality of the distinction between the psychological and the spiritual. In Spirit and Form, Goldberg proposes a new model of human consciousness which revolutionizes the traditional model and obviates many of its conceptual problems. The occlusive layers of extrinsic thoughts, feelings, ambitions, and self-assessments that have peripheralized the individual are to be chipped away, or subtracted from the equation, allowing the light of the true form or individuality to be revealed and seek its course of outward expression.
