This research volume serves as a comprehensive resource for psychophysiological research on media responses. It addresses the theoretical underpinnings, methodological techniques, and most recent research in this area. It goes beyond current volumes by placing the research techniques within a context of communication processes and effects as a field, and demonstrating how the real-time measurement of physiological responses enhances and complements more traditional measures of psychological effects from media. This volume introduces readers to the theoretical assumptions of psychophysiology as well as the operational details of collecting psychophysiological data. In addition to discussing specific measures, it includes brief reviews of recent experiments that have used psychophysiological measures to study how the brain processes media. It will serve as a valuable reference for media researchers utilizing these methodologies, or for other researchers needing to understand the theories, history, and methods of psychophysiological research.

Psychophysiological Measurement Of Covert Behavior written by F. J. McGuigan and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-08-18 with Psychology categories.

By the 1970s psychology had made sizable advances with its primary emphasis on the study of overt behavior, but its progress on covert behavior had been delayed because of the lack of suitable psychophysiological technology. Originally published in 1979, this title was written to help laboratory researchers in their efforts to develop a mature science of covert behavior. Early efforts to record small-scale behavior with flattened wine glasses about the tongue were heroic, but understandably progress did not begin until the advent of very sensitive electronic equipment. In 1979 we were now technologically capable of: (1) sensing; (2) amplifying; (3) recording; and (4) quantifying small-scale behavior with at least the effectiveness with which we have studied large-scale responses. It was hoped that this book would facilitate the empirical efforts of future psychophysiologists and professional researchers in each of these four phases of the laboratory system. More generally it was hoped that it would serve as an important component in our efforts to understand behavior. Today it can be read in its historical context.

The Psychophysiology of Thinking: Studies of Covert Processes describes the relation between brain events and peripheral bodily phenomena in the context of psychological theory. This book is organized into six parts encompassing 14 chapters, which focus on higher mental processes. This book starts with the historical development of electrical measures of covert processes. The subsequent chapters discuss the mechanism of conditioning of central nervous system, the skeletal musculature, and the autonomic activity. Other chapters explore the principles of hallucinations, sleep and dreaming, imagery, biofeedback, evoked potentials during thought, meaning, and thought with concomitant measures. The remaining chapters emphasize cerebral mechanisms, which principal concern is with the involvement of other bodily mechanisms in thought. Psychophysiologists, neurobiologists, behaviorists, and researchers in the fields of thinking and covert processes will find this book invaluable.

Digital News Media (DNM) are characterized by their efforts to provide consumers with new content interaction experiences, which contrast with the more passive experiences provided by traditional news media. This book directly addresses these interaction experiences, taking the reader from underlying principles to actual practices. To meet this objective, the book undertakes a characterization of interactivity in DNM and explores the boundaries between storytelling and direct data access. It examines information visualization trends present in the media, and practices in non-fiction storytelling in the context of the current wave of VR technology. Moreover, it addresses how UX research and evaluation methods can be applied to inform the design of interactive media. It also analyzes the concept of Newsonomics and it examines the reform of intellectual property law and legislation governing authors' rights. The book concludes by analyzing the scientific production of interaction over the last 10 years, extracting the main conclusions, and highlighting the lessons that can be extracted from the previous chapters.

Trauma Victim written by Lee Hyer and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-08-21 with Psychology categories.

Aiming to fulfill the need for a multifaceted approach to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), this guide addresses the importance of the stressor, places paramount the person of the victim and provides treatment procedures. The 11 authors weave a care paradigm that begins with a position: the persona of the victim organises and preserves his or her reality and the trauma makes this more so. The book provides a formula for accepting, understanding and treating the individual and helps the therapist inspect and nurture the trauma victim's self and ego skills.
