Pulsar Signal Science explores the captivating realm of pulsars, rapidly spinning neutron stars that emit beams of electromagnetic radiation. These cosmic lighthouses, formed from collapsed stars, could revolutionize space navigation. Their highly regular pulses, detectable as radio waves, X-rays, and gamma rays, provide precise timing signals, offering a potential alternative to GPS, especially for interstellar travel. The book investigates the complex physics governing pulsar emissions, including relativistic particle acceleration within their intense magnetospheres. The book delves into the history of pulsar discovery and the advancements in observation and analysis techniques. It highlights the potential of pulsars as a self-contained navigation system, independent of Earth-based infrastructure. Did you know that pulsars rotate at incredible speeds, some spinning hundreds of times per second? And their strong magnetic fields play a crucial role in the emission process. Divided into three sections, the book first introduces the fundamental properties of pulsars. It then explores the physics of pulsar magnetospheres and the emission of radiation across the electromagnetic spectrum. Finally, it focuses on the application of pulsars to space navigation, discussing signal detection, timing challenges, and the development of position determination algorithms.

This collection of articles on ‘Work?ows for e-Science’ is very timely and - portant. Increasingly, to attack the next generation of scienti?c problems, multidisciplinary and distributed teams of scientists need to collaborate to make progress on these new ‘Grand Challenges’. Scientists now need to access and exploit computational resources and databases that are geographically distributed through theuseof high speed networks. ‘Virtual Organizations’ or ‘VOs’ must be established that span multiple administrative domains and/or institutions and which can provide appropriate authentication and author- ation services and access controls to collaborating members. Some of these VOsmayonlyhavea?eetingexistencebutthelifetimeofothersmayrun into many years. The Grid community is attempting to develop both sta- ards and middleware to enable both scientists and industry to build such VOs routinely and robustly. This, of course, has been the goal of research in distributed computing for many years; but now these technologies come with a new twist service orie- ation. By specifying resources in terms of a service description, rather than allowing direct access to the resources, the IT industry believes that such an approach results in the construction of more robust distributed systems. The industry has therefore united around web services as the standard technology toimplementsuchserviceorientedarchitecturesandtoensureinteroperability between di?erent vendor systems.

The Many Faces Of Science written by Henry Byerly and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-03-05 with Philosophy categories.
In The Many Faces of Science, Leslie Stevenson and Henry Byerly masterfully, and painlessly, provide the information and the philosophical reflections students need to gain an understanding of the institution of modern science and its increasing impact on our lives and cultures. In this second edition, the authors update topics they explored in the first edition, and present new case studies on subjects such as HIV and AIDS, women in science, and work done in psychology and the social sciences. The authors also extend their discussion of science and values, in addition to revising their study of science and technology, to emphasize changes in scientific practice today. Accessible and rich with case studies, anecdotes, personal asides, and keen insight, The Many Faces of Science is the ideal interdisciplinary introduction for nonscientists and scientists in courses on science studies, science and society, and science and human values. It will also prove useful as supplementary reading in courses on science and philosophy, sociology, and political science.

Signal Processing In X Ray Pulsar Based Navigation written by Hua Zhang and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-10-26 with Science categories.
This book highlights key technologies of signal processing in pulsar-based navigation. It discusses the modeling, simulation, acquisition, and correction of relativistic effects of signals from X-ray pulsars. It demonstrates the methods of contour reconstruction and denoising, and introduces the concept and methods of the average contour. The performance of the phase measurement methods using signal contour is analyzed. The role of wavelets and bispectral methods in the denoising of pulsar signals is discussed. The measurements of pulsar signals’ arriving time are looked into from the perspective of time series. The book is intended for researchers and engineers interested in pulsar-based navigation. It is also a good reference source for senior undergraduates and postgraduate students majoring in navigation and signal processing.
