Puppies come in all shapes and sizes and so do their problems. If only we all had that model dog that was a breeze to house train, never chased the children around the garden biting ankles and never ever jumped on us just after they had been wallowing in a mud bath that would do a rhino justice! This book will help with all the problems you may encounter with your pup with the hope you will both emerge from puppyhood relatively unscathed by the experience and with a relationship based on understanding and trust. About the Author Patsy Parry has been training puppies and their owners for over 15 years. She is a member and committee member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers and abides by a strict code of conduct that no psychologically threatening or coercive methods will be used in training. She strongly believes it is all about building the right relationship with your puppy, one based on understanding and respecting dogs for what they are. She holds a Diploma in Companion Animal Behaviour and Training. Patsy is owned by four dogs - a dalmation (a rescue named Pongo!), Hollie the toy poodle, Miss Ellie the tibetan terrier and a border collie named Sparky.

A goofy new puppy turns the lives of two rescue pets upside down in this hilarious graphic novel for pet lovers and fans of The Secret Life of Pets. Butter and Crackers are rescue pets living their best (and quiet) lives. Butter, a laidback cat, has access to all the butter he can lick and Crackers, a slightly nervous dog, is free to bark at squirrels to his heart's content. With an owner who goes to work every day, they spend their days doing whatever they want. But when Peanut, a brand-new puppy with big floppy ears, arrives, everything changes. He has no appreciation for the quiet life, no idea how stairs work and he's even afraid of the dark! Butter and Crackers have had enough - this puppy needs to go! But when Peanut escapes and gets lost, it turns out that home isn't home without the noisy little puppy after all... A sweet and hilarious story about life seen through the eyes of pets, perfect for newly independent readers, visual readers and pet owners. This edition contains lots of fun bonus extras, including how to draw, behind the scenes and a short story!

You just got home with your brand-new puppy: you walked in the door together, he peed a little on the floor, you mopped it up, and now you're sitting looking at each other. What next? If you've had the foresight to buy a copy of Puppy Care: Dog's Eye View, you'll already have a plan. Not only is it an indispensable guide to the first year - and beyond - but it's also the first book to look at situations from the puppy's, as well as the human's, point of view. Dog cognition studies are on the rise, science knows more than it ever has about the ways in which dogs think and feel. And if you are able to take a puppy-level view of your new pet's life, it will help you to understand why he loves what he loves, what things might scare him - and how you can help him to overcome his fear - and why he does the things you'd prefer he didn't do (so that you can come up with kind, constructive ways to get him to stop). In a sensible, easy-to-follow text that offers invaluable insights into the world as seen through your puppy's eyes, you'll find essential guidance on: eating, sleeping, playing, training, socializing (both with people and with other dogs), problem-solving, and building the best-ever relationship with your puppy.

Learn to communicate with your dog—using their language “Good reading for dog lovers and an immensely useful manual for dog owners.”—The Washington Post An Applied Animal Behaviorist and dog trainer with more than twenty years’ experience, Dr. Patricia McConnell reveals a revolutionary new perspective on our relationship with dogs—sharing insights on how “man’s best friend” might interpret our behavior, as well as essential advice on how to interact with our four-legged friends in ways that bring out the best in them. After all, humans and dogs are two entirely different species, each shaped by its individual evolutionary heritage. Quite simply, humans are primates and dogs are canids (as are wolves, coyotes, and foxes). Since we each speak a different native tongue, a lot gets lost in the translation. This marvelous guide demonstrates how even the slightest changes in our voices and in the ways we stand can help dogs understand what we want. Inside you will discover: • How you can get your dog to come when called by acting less like a primate and more like a dog • Why the advice to “get dominance” over your dog can cause problems • Why “rough and tumble primate play” can lead to trouble—and how to play with your dog in ways that are fun and keep him out of mischief • How dogs and humans share personality types—and why most dogs want to live with benevolent leaders rather than “alpha wanna-bes!” Fascinating, insightful, and compelling, The Other End of the Leash is a book that strives to help you connect with your dog in a completely new way—so as to enrich that most rewarding of relationships.
