Currently, Cyber Physical Systems (CPS) and/or IoT play predominant roles in the cloud communication domain. The main aspects of these types of systems are Wireless Sensor Networks, Cloud and Communication Networks. The data which needs to be disseminated from multiple sources to the destination base station, or sink, is of vital significance. There are many problems which can occur when data is conveyed to the sink. The sink is connected to the cloud via a communication network. The congestion, reliability, delay, fairness, etc. are all of main concern. These can be treated as Quality of Service parameters that govern the performance of the CPS. Above all, energy consumption is the main constrain for WSN node. It is extremely difficult to obtain good QoS by keeping energy consumption low. Even the response of one of QoS parameter depends on the many other QoS parameters. Care must be taken on all QoS parameters in order to improve the performance of the wireless sensor networks. This Quality of Services may improve the application base of the CPS. With the QoS parameters the data dissemination along with energy optimization is affected. The performance of the WSN needs to be regularly checked against the QoS metrics for different data inputs. This may contain the periodic- or non-periodic data, event based data, transient or busty data. Topics discussed in book: Emphasis is given on QoS parameters and their improvement in Network Delay, Throughput, Packet Delivery Ratio (PDR), Packet Loss Ratio (PLR), Energy Consumption, Congestion Control, Reliability, Fairness, Delay, Jitter

When choosing the technology options to develop a wireless sensor network (WSN), it is vital that their performance levels can be assessed for the type of application intended. This book describes the different technology options – MAC protocols, routing protocols, localisation and data fusion techniques – and provides the means to numerically measure their performance, whether by simulation, mathematical models or experimental test beds. Case studies, based on the authors’ direct experience of implementing wireless sensor networks, describe the design methodology and the type of measurements used, together with samples of the performance measurements attained. Wireless Sensor and Actuator Networks will enable you to answer vital questions such as: How long will my network remain alive given the amount of sensing required of it? For how long should I set the sleeping state of my motes? How many sensors should I distribute to meet the expected requirements of the application? What type of throughput should I expect as a function of the number of nodes deployed and the radio interface chosen (whether it be Bluetooth or Zigbee)? How is the Packet Error Rate of my Zigbee motes affected by the selection of adjacent frequency sub bands in the ISM 2.4GHz band? How is the localisation precision dependant on the number of nodes deployed in a corridor? Communications and signal processing engineers, researchers and graduate students working in wireless sensor networks will find this book an invaluable practical guide to this important technology. "This book gives a proper balance between theory and application; it is a book for those R&D engineers that want to appreciate both why, how and in which domains Wireless Sensor Networks can be best applied." --Fabio Bellifemine, Telecom Italia "This book is a thorough and accessible exposition on wireless sensor networks with a good balance between theory and practice; it is valuable for both students and practicing engineers, and is an essential addition for engineering libraries." --Professor Moe Win, Associate Professor at the Laboratory for Information and Decision Systems (LIDS), Massachusetts Institute of Technology Only book to examine wireless sensor network technologies and assess their performance capabilities against possible applications Enables the engineer to choose the technology that will give the best performance for the intended application Case studies, based on the authors’ direct experience of implementing wireless sensor networks, describe the design methodology and the type of measurements used, together with samples of the performance measurements attained

Focusing on an important and complicated topic in wireless network design, Wireless Quality of Service: Techniques, Standards, and Applications systematically addresses the quality-of-service (QoS) issues found in many types of popular wireless networks. In each chapter, the book presents numerous QoS challenges encountered in real-world applications and delineates ways to overcome these obstacles. Some of the challenges explored are performance impairments in WLAN hotspots, video streaming applications, and broadband wireless access. The techniques and mechanisms covered to tackle these problems include medium access and call admission control techniques, a parameter tuning algorithm, the QoS-enabling features of IEEE 802.11e, a Markov chain model, a probe-based distributed admission control mechanism, topology-transparent scheduling protocols, and a novel multicast congestion control mechanism. Addressing advanced topics and future directions, the expert contributors acknowledge the need for more research to solve several open issues. In the meantime, they offer innovative solutions to solve current QoS problems.
