Until recently crime prevention has been considered of little importance in the training of practitioners in related disciplines. In Europe there is a lack of opportunities for basic training and professional development. It can be assumed that the demand for qualified specialists and managers in crime prevention will increase. It was the objective of the Beccaria-Center Professional Training in Crime Prevention to work on closing this gap. With the financial support of the AGIS-programme of the European Commission, the project was implemented by the Council of Crime Prevention of Lower Saxony, Germany with eight European partners. This compilation from the involved countries reflects the current situation of qualification in crime prevention. The contributions show that it is necessary to expand basic training and further professional development opportunities in crime prevention. They clearly demonstrate that the demand for high quality and sustainable crime prevention is higher than ever and there is a clear lack of such training offers in Germany and in Europe more widely.

This book guides policing students through the areas of Criminology and crime prevention required for their course and help them apply this knowledge into their work. It uses crime prevention theory alongside current practice and evidence-based policing research that students can apply in their practice. It explores what criminology is, its helpfulness in policing, and examines key topics such as offenders and offending, victims and victimology, and principles and theories of crime prevention. A range of models of policing which can be applied to various crime prevention scenarios are discussed, with details on specific initiatives already in place. The content is specifically designed to meet the requirements of the PEQF (Police Education Qualifications Framework) and module six in the policing curriculum on criminology and crime prevention. Case studies and evidence-based examples are used to provide clear links between theory and practice, while critical thinking and review activities embed understanding and promote critical thinking. As part of the series, care has been taken into this book to make sure that it reflects challenges faced by new students, linking theory to real-life operational practice. Part of the Professional Policing Curriculum in Practice series.

Police Work written by Colin Rogers and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-05-23 with Social Science categories.

This book provides a highly readable account of police work. It builds upon Introduction to Police Work (Rogers and Lewis 2007) to provide a comprehensive, in depth and critical understanding of policing in today's diverse society. Police Work: Principles and Practice meets the need for an increasingly sophisticated and professional approach to training within the police, whether this is carried out within police forces themselves or within higher education institutions. Written in an accessible style by current and former police practitioners and a nationally recognized expert on the National Intelligence Model, this book focuses – in line with the government's agenda for workforce modernization – on three key areas of policing: community, investigation and intelligence. It introduces readers to many important areas through the use of definition boxes, scenario boxes highlighting good practice, points to note boxes, flowcharts and diagrams as well as a wide range of questions and exercises to help apply their knowledge to different situations and scenarios. This book will be essential reading for those on probationer training programmes and a valuable resource for students taking courses in policing and criminology more generally where an advanced level of understanding of the nature of police work is required.
