Es lässt sich nicht von der Hand weisen: Den Ganztagsschulen gehört die Zukunft. In nur fünf Jahren konnte der Anteil der Ganztagsschulen an allen Schulen von einem Siebtel auf mehr als ein Drittel gesteigert werden. Die Schullandschaft ist durch Ganztagsschulen stark in Bewegung gekommen. Der Anspruch der Ganztagsschule fokussiert auf die Frage, was Ganztagsschule leisten soll. Diese Perspektive thematisiert zum einen die Bildungsanforderungen und die pädagogischen Ziele sowie die Bildungskonzeption und organisatorische Umsetzung für die einzelne Schule. Dafür gilt es, konkrete Anforderungen und Orientierungen für die Qualität zu diskutieren und zu formulieren, um den Anspruch von Ganztagsschulen zu verdeutlichen. In diesem Buch wird die Qualität von Ganztagsschule aus drei Perspektiven aufgezeigt: Der schultheoretische Rahmen wird anhand der Theorie und Konzeption von Qualitätsmodellen und Fragen zur Kompetenzorientierung aufgezeigt. Eine Synopse der Qualitätsstandards der Bundesländer gibt einen Überblick über das bundesweite Geschehen und mit dem Qualitätsrahmen für Ganztagsschulen, aufgebaut nach Bereichen, Merkmalen, Kriterien und Indikatoren, wird ein „allgemeiner Qualitätsrahmen“ für Ganztagsschulen vorgestellt. Die schulpraktische Umsetzung wird anhand der fünf Schwerpunktthemen aufgezeigt: Unterricht und Lernkultur, Zeitstrukturierung und Rhythmisierung, Kooperationskultur, Räume und Ausstattung, Personaleinsatz und Partizipation von Schülerinnen und Schülern sowie Eltern. Im dritten Teil wird mit Beiträgen zum demografischen Wandel, zu Unterstützungssystemen für Ganztagsschulen und zu Forderungen von Praxis und Wissenschaft an die Ganztagsschulentwicklung der Bogen von der Theorie zur Praxis geschlagen. Der Band richtet sich an alle, die mit Ganztagsschule praktisch und wissenschaftlich befasst sind, also an die Personen vor Ort in den Ganztagsschulen, in der Bildungsadministration und in den Unterstützungssystemen ebenso wie an die in Wissenschaft und Forschung Tätigen. Alle, die Ganztagsschulen gestalten, sie steuern, unterstützen und erforschen, kommen um die Qualitätsdiskussion nicht herum. Für sie wird dieser Band Orientierungen und Anregungen bieten.
