"The solution to quasilinear first order hyperbolic systems of equations may be interpretated in terms of waves, which belong to a certain function class and propagate in some suitable space, the work all has a common feature the fact that it adds to the understanding of what may be called nonlinear wave propagation" - preface.

This book covers compressible flow however the authors also show how wave phenomena in electromagnetism and solid mechanics can be treated using similar mathematical methods. It caters to the needs of the modern student by providing the tools necessary for a mathematical analysis of most kinds of waves liable to be encountered in modern science and technology. At the same time emphasis is laid on the physical background and modeling that requires these tools.

Global Propagation Of Regular Nonlinear Hyperbolic Waves written by Tatsien Li and has been published by Birkhäuser this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-11-02 with Science categories.

This monograph describes global propagation of regular nonlinear hyperbolic waves described by first-order quasilinear hyperbolic systems in one dimension. The exposition is clear, concise, and unfolds systematically beginning with introductory material and leading to the original research of the authors. Topics are motivated with a number of physical examples from the areas of elastic materials, one-dimensional gas dynamics, and waves. Aimed at researchers and graduate students in partial differential equations and related topics, this book will stimulate further research and help readers further understand important aspects and recent progress of regular nonlinear hyperbolic waves.

Hyperbolic Systems Of Conservation Laws And The Mathematical Theory Of Shock Waves written by Peter D. Lax and has been published by SIAM this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1973-01-01 with Technology & Engineering categories.

This book deals with the mathematical side of the theory of shock waves. The author presents what is known about the existence and uniqueness of generalized solutions of the initial value problem subject to the entropy conditions. The subtle dissipation introduced by the entropy condition is investigated and the slow decay in signal strength it causes is shown.

Quasilinear Hyperbolic Systems And Dissipative Mechanisms written by Ling Hsiao and has been published by World Scientific this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1998-02-24 with Mathematics categories.

This book introduces the recent developments in the subject of quasilinear hyperbolic systems with dissipation, such as frictional damping, relaxation, viscosity and heat diffusion. The mathematical theory behind this subject is emphasized in two ways. One emphasis is based on understanding the influence of the dissipation mechanism on the qualitative behavior of solutions, such as the nonlinear diffusive phenomena caused by damping, and other phenomena (including phase transition) for the case with viscosity and heat diffusion. The second emphasis is to take the systems with the dissipation mechanism as an approach to approximating the corresponding system of quasilinear hyperbolic conservation laws - the zero-limit relaxation, or the zero-limit viscosity, and the related topic of nonlinear stability of waves.

An Introduction To Compressible Flows With Applications written by José Pontes and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-12-02 with Mathematics categories.

This book offers a concise and practical survey of the principles governing compressible flows, along with selected applications. It starts with derivation of the time-dependent, three-dimensional equation of compressible potential flows, and a study of weak waves, including evaluation of the sound speed in gases. The following chapter addresses quasi-one-dimensional flows, the study of normal shock waves, and flow in ducts with constant cross section subjected to friction and/or heat transfer. It also investigates the effects of friction and heat transfer in ducts with variable cross section. The chapter ends by pointing to the analogy between one-dimensional compressible flows and open channel hydraulics. Further, the book discusses supersonic flows, including the study of oblique shock waves, and supersonic flows over corners and wedges. It also examines Riemann problems, numerical resolution of the wave equation, and of nonlinear hyperbolic problems, including propagation of strong waves. A subsequent chapter focuses on the small perturbation theory of subsonic, transonic and supersonic flows around slender bodies aligned or almost aligned to the uniform inflow. In particular, it explores subsonic and supersonic flows over a wavy wall. Lastly, an appendix with a short derivation of the Fluid Mechanics basic equations is included. The final chapter addresses the problem of transonic flows where both subsonic and supersonic are present. Lastly, an appendix with a short derivation of the Fluid Mechanics basic equations is included. Illustrated with several practical examples, this book is a valuable tool to understand the most fundamental mathematical principles of compressible flows. Graduate Mathematics, Physics and Engineering students as well as researchers with an interest in the aerospace sciences benefit from this work.
