This landmark volume combines classic and revisionist essays to explore the historiography of Sardinia’s exceptional transition from an island of the Byzantine empire to the rise of its own autonomous rulers, the iudikes, by the 1000s. In addition to Sardinia’s contacts with the Byzantines, Muslim North Africa and Spain, Lombard Italy, Genoa, Pisa, and the papacy, recent and older evidence is analysed through Latin, Greek and Arabic sources, vernacular charters and cartularies, the testimony of coinage, seals, onomastics and epigraphy as well as the Sardinia’s early medieval churches, arts, architecture and archaeology. The present volume contains linguistic, philological and cultural studies concerning Sardinian and its varieties. The first part focusses on linguistics and discusses, under various approaches, issues regarding historical sociolinguistics, Sardinian phonology, morphology, syntax and semantics as well as the edition of a manuscript. The second part concentrates on plurilinguism in the Sardinian novel and theatre as well as in the Sardinian film. Nel 1065 i giudici di Torres donavano all’ordine di San Benedetto le chiese di S. Maria di Bubalis e S. Elia di Monte Santo con l’intero monte, costituendo così la dotazione del primo cenobio cassinese dell’isola. Quel gesto significava la loro fedeltà al papa e il loro schierarsi dalla parte della riforma ecclesiastica. Il loro diploma di donazione, ancora oggi conservato a Montecassino, costituisce il più antico documento scritto del Medioevo sardo, ma la vicenda ci è testimoniata anche nelle suggestive pagine della Chronica Casinensis di Leone Marsicano. I nomi delle chiese di S. Elia e S. Maria, presso l’attuale Siligo, vennero incisi assieme a quelle degli altri beni posseduti dai Cassinesi sul portone bronzeo del monastero laziale, come ad affermarne l’eterna stabilità. Il presente volume, che raccoglie saggi di specialisti di diverse discipline, descrive il territorio di Monte Santo e le sue chiese dalla fase di età bizantina fino a quella tardo-medievale, con un’incursione nella storia otto-novecentesca relativa alle dispute per la gestione della festa campestre di Sant’Elies.

Loin de désigner génériquement différentes formes de métalangage, la linguistique populaire constitue aujourd’hui un domaine propre, qui englobe les représentations et pratiques épi- et métalinguistiques (perceptions, savoirs, discours, interventions, etc.) des locuteur·trice·s « ordinaires » ou non-linguistes – situés hors du champ scientifique ou de contextes hégémoniques institutionnalisés – ainsi que, au niveau méta, l’étude de ces représentations et pratiques.
