Chapter 12 is available Open Access under CC-BY-NC-ND licence. Conversations around diversity, equity, and inclusion in science communication are in danger of generating much concern without effecting change and systematic transformations. This radical volume addresses these circular discourses and reveals the gaps in the field. Putting the spotlight on the marginalised voices of so-called 'racialised minorities', and those from Global South regions, it interrogates the global footprint of the science communication enterprise. Moving beyond tokenistic and extractive approaches, this book creates a space for academics and practitioners to challenge issues around race and sociocultural inclusion, providing mutual learning, paradigm-shifting perspectives, and innovative ways forward for the science communication advancement agenda. This work has received Special Recognition from the CIMUSET Award Committee.

What role do science and technology play in society? What is the nature of expert knowledge? What is science’s relation to democracy? This introduction to science, technology, and society answers these questions, and more, by exploring contemporary research on topics such as expertise, activism, science policy, and innovation. It offers a comprehensive resource for considering the place that science and technology have in contemporary societies, and the roles that they can and should play. Accessible to a non-specialist audience, it draws on a rich range of cases and examples, from nuclear activism in India to content moderation in Kenya. Framing science as always social, and society as always shaped by science and technology, it asks: what worlds do we want science and technology to bring into being?

The Museum Accessibility Spectrum written by Alison F. Eardley and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-01-16 with Art categories.

The Museum Accessibility Spectrum engages with discussions around access to museums and argues that what is impairing the progress of museums towards inclusion is the current ableist model of access. Drawing on contributors from international museum researchers, practitioners, artists, and activists, this volume challenges the notion of the core ‘able’ museum visitor and instead proposes all individuals are positioned on a multidimensional Accessibility Spectrum, which incorporates intersecting physical, sensory, neurodivergent, and social and cultural dimensions. It explores the ways in which access provisions designed to enhance the experience of a minority can enhance the museum experience for all visitors. A constructively critical approach is taken to practice-based chapters, using case studies and approaches from around the globe, split into three main sections. Within the Disability Gain section, the authors consider the benefits of inclusive design, perspectives, and practice for all visitors to the museum sector. The Social and Cultural Inclusion section examines ways in which museums have broadened representation and participation to better serve audiences who have been excluded, or 'underrepresented' by the museums. Finally, the Agents of Social Change section considers how, with this work, museums are challenging systemic biases and exclusions. The international, cross-disciplinary contributions in this volume are driven by research-informed practice and will transform existing thinking to change future practice within the museum sector by challenging this ableist bias. This book will be of interest and importance not only to museum practitioners and researchers, but also to readers with an interest in cultural studies, critical disability studies, translation studies, and inclusive and universal design. Performance written by Hanna B. Hölling and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-11-22 with Performing Arts categories.

Representing the output of the research project "Performance: Conservation, Materiality, Knowledge," this volume brings together diverse voices, methods, and formats in the discussion and practice of performance conservation. Conservators, artists, curators and scholars explore the ontology of performance art through its creation and institutionalization into an astonishing range of methods and approaches for keeping performance alive and well, whether inside museum collections or through folk traditions. Anchored in the disciplines of contemporary art conservation, art history, and performance studies, the contributions range far beyond these to include perspectives from anthropology, musicology, dance, law, heritage studies, and other fields. While its focus is on performance as understood in the context of contemporary art, the book’s notion of performance is much wider, including other media such as music, theater, and dance as well as an open-ended concept of performance as a vital force across culture(s). While providing cutting-edge research on an emerging and important topic, this volume remains accessible to all interested readers, allowing it to serve as a singularly valuable resource for museum professionals, scholars, students, and practitioners.
