This historic book may have numerous typos and missing text. Purchasers can usually download a free scanned copy of the original book (without typos) from the publisher. Not indexed. Not illustrated. 1907 edition. Excerpt: ... VIII THE Grjeco-latin ARYAN Let Us go back for a while to that other wave of Aryan blood which presumably flowed westward from Asia into Europe by the southern route. If the MidAsian origin of the Aryan peoples be accepted as fairly proven, it is interesting to note how the two great westward streams of migration, the northern and the southern, would in their journeying be continually forced farther and farther apart, and how by the interposition of natural barriers they would be kept from ever uniting or even drawing near toeach other again. First, the diverging lines of the two rivers and the lateral plains, with the broadening wedge of the desert of Kizilkoom between; then the forbidding wastes of the Khivan desert; then the snowy wall of the Caucasus; and still beyond the black waters of the Euxine and its adjunct, the Azov; and yet beyond all these the rugged crests of the Balkans and the Carpathians; and then the great Alpine center of Mid-Europe to force them still farther apart. And so the two streams, starting from one common home, would keep ever diverging, and never again intermingle, or cross each other's paths even, in their long march westward to the waters of the greater seas which lay in the dimness beyond. This much we know, however, that it is a separate race life, a separate race history, a separate and distinct race development which we are to trace in peoples who were once of one kin. It is this fact with which we now come to deal, and to which the discussion thus far has largely been preliminary. Whether the two peoples which we now know re. spectively as Greek and Latin left the primitive race home as one people and afterward separated, is not settled, possibly never can be definitely settled. Yet certain...

Joseph Pomeroy Widney offers a history of the Aryan race, which when this book was published in 1907 was thought a branch of the Indo-European and Caucasian peoples. The author practiced as a medical doctor, having first gained experience during service in the U.S. Civil War. Over many years he became interested in the ancestry and development of humanity, carrying out research from the existing knowledge of his time. Widney developed a theory that successive generations of individual races developed distinguishing characteristics due to the qualities of the soil in which their food was cultivated, and the climate in which they resided. Much categorization ensues, with the author assigning Aryan groups and subgroups to various regions of the world. In the modern day, Widney's investigations have been proven incorrect. The advent of genetic science disproved the entire hypothesis of an Aryan race, with human lineage shown to have progressed in a completely different fashion. Nevertheless, this book is an illustrative historic example of how human ancestry and racial development were studied and discussed prior to rigorous scientific experiment and the resulting conclusive evidence and data.

The Three Americas written by Joseph Widney and has been published by Blurb this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-05-23 with History categories.

This book is a continuation of the author's epic Race-Life of the Aryan Peoples (two volumes) and interweaves his personal family history into the narrative. "This book, The Three Americas, contains much of family history and much of my own personal history. The family records show successive migrations back and forth from Scotia to Scandinavia and about the shores of the North Sea and the Baltic; in the Teutonic Netherlands; in Normandy; and then from North Ireland to the New World. In the ninety-four years, I have lived and taken part in the founding of four different phases of American race-life. Born in the Miami Valley of Ohio, in a log house, with the smoke of the Indian wigwam still about the place of my birth; growing up as a boy with the old flint-lock rifle and the woodsman's axe, to battle with the wild animals and the dense forests which then covered the land; picking up a scanty education in the country schoolhouse; bearing arms in the Civil War; then, the mining life of California in the old "Gold Days"; then, as Surgeon in the Army, living for years the desert life in battling with the Apaches; then, through other long years, in the practice of medicine, living the romance of the rancho and Mission life in Southern California- I have seen the evolution of the American race-life as have probably few other persons." Joseph Pomeroy Widney, M.D. D.D. LL.D (1841-1938) was an American doctor, educator, historian, and religious leader. Born in Ohio, he served during the American Civil War as a field doctor, and moved to California in 1862. In Los Angeles he helped found the Los Angeles Medical Society, the University of Southern California, becoming its second President and founding Dean of its School of Medicine.
