Grace never leaves a man where it finds him. Grace always transforms the sinner into a saint--a holy man. God's will is for His people to be holy. This mandate for holiness is based in the very character and person of God: We are to be holy because God is holy. Joel Beeke and Michael Barrett expound the doctrine of sanctification and show that it is the application of the gospel to our daily lives.

Since 2015 has been deemed the Year of the Consecrated Life by Pope Francis, this work by Cardinal Arinze is a very timely one-for this year, and for any time. A reflection on the consecrated life, Radical Discipleship represents a beautiful way for faithful Catholics to participate in this Church-wide theme and celebration by coming to a deeper understanding of the consecrated life. Radical Discipleship illuminates the vocation of the consecrated state and its presence in the Body of Christ, beginning with a brief look at its origins in Scripture and the early Church. The work then reflects upon the following: The different forms this radical life takes The population of consecrated persons in the Church today The recognition that the consecrated life has received from the Church The vows of Poverty, Chastity and Obedience taken by all consecrated persons Community life as it pertains to consecrated life The prophetic aspect of the consecrated life The impact of the consecrated state on the Church community and on society Alongside these fascinating topics, Cardinal Arinze addresses some of the problems faced by consecrated people, and how these difficulties have led some to abandon this vocation. In examining the struggles specific to the consecrated state, the Cardinal seeks to encourage other consecrated persons to persevere in their vocation. He further calls the entire Church to support the consecrated life and those who have dedicated themselves to Christ in this way. Although filled with substantive information, even the most involved sections are presented in an engaging, readable and reflective style. The book is not, as the Cardinal explains, "a dissertation based on deep research on the theology and canon law on the consecrated life."Radical Discipleship is rather a reflection, written for consecrated people, other laity and clergy alike, and offers wonderful material for thought and prayer. It is Cardinal Arinze's hope that his work will make the consecrated life "better understood, loved, lived and promoted".

"The Call to Holiness was inspired by the fundamental conviction that spirituality without morality is disembodied and morality without spirituality is rootless. In other words, our moral life arises out of our spirituality to become its public face. Furthermore, what we do to nurture our spirituality through spiritual practices can and ought to have an effect on our moral practices. In the end, spirituality and morality converge when we consider life as a whole rather than simply focus on individual actions in the moral life or devotional practices in the spiritual life."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. What is backsliding, really? Is it serious? What can be done about it? The Christian life is a race, a marathon. Through the gospel, God summons us to sustained and persevering effort. He empowers his children by grace--free and undeserved blessing through Christ. But he does not carry them to heaven on flowery beds of ease. Faith is a living, athletic grace. God's mercy motivates Christians and energizes them to press on and overcome great obstacles. Christ blazed the trail before us. He now calls us to follow Him to the end (Hebrews 12:1-2). Looking unto Jesus--that is how we persevere. In him is everything we need. But realistically speaking, Christians are not always pressing forward. Sometimes they wander off the narrow path, slip, and injure themselves. To the confused and injured runner, this book says, "God can help you. You can finish this race--and finish it well." Drawing from the wisdom of the Scriptures and aided by the insights of godly Bible teachers through the centuries, Getting Back in the Race addresses the age-old problem of backsliding. Backsliding is a season in the life of a professing Christian when his sin grows stronger and his obedience to God declines. The beginning of the book uncovers signs of sliding into a spiritual rut, for this is often more subtle than falling into scandalous sins. The rest of the book shows that there is hope for the backslider. God is so amazing! Even though our backsliding insults him, dishonors him, grieves him, and pushes away his love, still he calls us to return to him. When you grasp hold of God's methods by faith, you discover that Christ has grasped hold of you. Our spiritual Physician has potent medicines to heal his people from their injuries and get them back on track to finish the race. This book is a wake-up call to careless Christians and an encouragement to all believers to keep running to the Lord.

The Holiness Manifesto written by Kevin W. Mannoia and has been published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-04 with Religion categories.

Does the concept of holiness hold any relevance for Christians in the twenty-first century? Or is it rather a relic of the past, with little to offer in today's postmodern world? The contributors to this book firmly insist that holiness is indeed relevant, no matter the age in which we live. Moreover, it is essential to following Christ in the twenty-first century. The essayists are all members of the Wesleyan Holiness Study Project, a gathering of scholars and leaders who have met since 2004 to explore the mission of the churches of the Holiness movement. The book begins with two compelling ecumenical statements articulating the holiness message for today's church: "The Holiness Manifesto" and "Fresh Eyes on Holiness." These are followed by a dozen penetrating essays grouped in three parts: (1) the understanding of holiness in Scripture, (2) holiness in historical and theological perspective, and (3) holiness in relation to various practical aspects of ministry. The book concludes with appendixes offering five considered descriptions of holiness. The fastest-growing segments of the church worldwide have their roots in the Wesleyan Holiness tradition. Catholic, Orthodox, and other Protestant denominations are discovering its relevance to their own traditions and practices. The Holiness Manifesto offers an ideal overview to those wishing to understand more about this extremely influential movement. Contributors: Jim Adams Barry Callen Lisa L. In April 2012, Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut, and Paulist Press co-sponsored a conference celebrating Vatican II's Continuing agenda, focusing on the addresses given at Vatican II's conclusion that challenged the church to spread the council's message. Rather than critique the council documents, the conference explored creative ways in which the energy of the council can be marshaled in establishing the agenda and needs of the twenty-first century. Speakers included: Anthony Ciorra Massimo Faggioli R. Scott Appleby Diana Hayes Roberto Goizueta Michael Himes Sarah Heiman and Peter Denio Nancy Dallavalle John Haught Michael W. Higgins The umbrella theme for the conference was the watershed teaching of the council on the "Universal Call to Holiness." Topics include: how the council has been interpreted over the last fifty years; its vision; messages to rulers, women, the poor and suffering, artists, young people, workers, and scientists; and finally, holiness for our world today. A Call For Holiness written by Tommy E. Woods and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-09-07 with categories.

A call for holiness! It appears that in our present time, the world has moved farther and farther from God. Crime is raging all over the land and country. Immorality appears to be an accepted way of life. Attitudes of hatred permeate at many levels of our society. Many churches seem to have lost the mandated mission of soul winning and kingdom building. Many lifestyles of Christians and non-Christians seem to have moved far away from the principles of decent and holy living. Many families have failed to establish and teach biblical principles to their children at early ages; therefore, holy living for them is not a top priority. The fact that many people have not taken holy living seriously enough to spiritually impact their way of life does not negate God's instructions for us to live holy lives. Throughout the Bible, it is expressed over and over again for us to be holy, for God is holy. The ultimate consequence of not living a holy life is that we will miss sharing eternity with God, which is an awesome price to pay. The reason for writing this book came to me in a vision about the need to speak out about our calling from the Word of God to live holy lives. Hearing and applying the call for holy living begins with each individual. If the world is going to get any better, it is going to be up to us the people of God to make a difference. It is my prayer that after reading this book, each of us will aggressively pursue holiness and will also aggressively seek to share the good news of Jesus Christ with others.

Biblical counselor Colin R. McCulloch retrieves John Owen’s theology of Trinitarian sanctification to address modern concerns in counseling methodology. McCulloch examines two divergent approaches to sanctification within the biblical counseling movement, suggesting that Owen’s emphasis on Spirit-infused habitual grace provides a more holistic vision for soul care. Far from a mere historical study, McCulloch’s incisive analysis will help pastors and laymen alike minister to sinners and sufferers in Christ’s church.
