"The author takes you right along with her as she protests on the barricades during the tumultuous 1960's, works in a shipyard in the 1970's, builds a health clinic in Nicaragua in the 1980s, turns 50 in Peru in 2000, and searches for inner peace and balance every step of the way. These pages reveal how Kendall did indeed fulfill her destiny as a seeker/warrior-and to the reader's good fortune is now a writer as well. Don't miss it." -Max Elbaum, author, Revolution in the Air Brimming with honesty, humor, and zeal, Kendall Hale's memoir shares her remarkable journey from youthful adolescence to thoughtful maturity in Radical Passions. Shaped within the context of major historical events from the turbulent 1960s to today, Hale follows her evolution from being the daughter of Mormon parents to becoming a member of the Students for a Democratic Society and achieving spiritual maturity in her later years. Hale's journey is personal, yet universal. She explores her early college years protesting the Vietnam War, her young adulthood struggles in Boston with the new communist, feminist, and labor movements, and her transition to marriage and family. From her search for the socialist dream in Castro's Cuba, Mao's China, and Nicaragua during the Contra War to her role as a wife, mother, and veteran of a fractured marriage, Hale reveals her growing understanding of the world around her. A move to Asheville, North Carolina, spurred the birth and maturation of her spiritual quest. Hale describes how therapy, Buddhism, and spiritual travels in India, South America, and the Pacific led her back to the Blue Ridge mountains in a community replete with rednecks, polygamists, voracious developers, environmentalists, and New Age dreamers. Transitioning into menopause and the second half of life, Hale faces the challenges of aging and its potential flowering of wisdom and integration. A story for all who seek deeper meaning in their lives, Radical Passions is the inspiring tale of an ordinary woman's extraordinary life.

Radical Passion written by Ottilie Assing and has been published by Peter Lang Incorporated, International Academic Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1999 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

Radical Passion examines eighty essays and reports on the United States (1852-1865) by the German-American journalist Ottilie Assing (1819-1884) along with twenty-seven extant letters from Assing to Frederick Douglass during the years 1870-1879. A keen and critical observer of the American scene before and during the Civil War, Assing was passionately committed to her personal freedom and to political and social equality for African Americans. She believed in radical social movements, backed the German Revolution of 1848, and became an enthusiastic supporter of radical abolitionism, women's emancipation, and civil rights for black Americans. For almost three decades, she and Frederick Douglass were close intellectual collaborators and lovers. The reports and essays, originally written in German, are presented in their first English translation; an introduction provides biographical background and historical context.

Radical Passion written by Andrew Harvey and has been published by North Atlantic Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-10-23 with Body, Mind & Spirit categories.

This culmination of award-winning author Andrew Harvey’s life’s work bridges the great divide between spiritual resignation and engaged spiritual activism. A manifesto for the transformation of the world through the fusion of deep mystical peace with the clarity of radical wisdom, it is a wake-up call to put love and compassion to urgent, focused action. According to Harvey, we are in a massive global crisis reflected by a mass media addicted to violence and trivialization at a moment when what the world actually needs is profound inspiration, a return to the heart-centered way of the Divine Feminine, the words of the mystics throughout the ages, and the cultivation of the nonviolent philosophies of Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, Aung San Suu Kyi, and the Dalai Lama. Harvey’s concepts of radical passion and sacred activism fly in the face of restraint, of pessimism, of denial, of all that is inhumane, fusing the mystic’s passion for God with the activist’s passion for justice and for healing the division between heaven and earth, heart and will, body and soul, prayer and action. Sacred activism asks that we engage deeply on a personal, spiritual, and political level so as to become a fully empowered, fully active, and contemplative humanity that can turn tragedy into grace, and desolation into the opportunity to build and co-create a new world. Unlike many spiritual books, Radical Passion does not veil the dark with artificial hope. It explores the catastrophes of our current times and celebrates the ecstatic hope and divinity that is possible—right now and in the future.

Radicals written by David Horowitz and has been published by Simon and Schuster this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-09-24 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

Radical liberals want to make America a better place, but their utopian social engineering leads, ironically, to greater human suffering. So argues David Horowitz, bestselling author in his newest book Radicals: Portraits of a Destructive Passion. From Karl Marx to Barack Obama, Horowitz shows how the idealistic impulse to make the world “a better place” gives birth to the twin cultural pathologies of cynicism and nihilism, and is the chief source of human suffering. A former liberal himself, Horowitz recounts his own brushes with radicalism and offers unparalleled insight into the disjointed ideology of liberal elites through case studies of well-known radial leftists, including Christopher Hitchens, feminist Bettina Aptheker , leftist academic Cornel West, and more. Exploring the origin and evolution of radical liberals and their progressive ideology, Radicals illustrates how liberalism is not only intellectually crippling for its adherents, but devastating to society.

Marie Equi written by Michael Helquist and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

Marie Equi explores the fiercely independent life of an extraordinary woman. Born of Italian-Irish parents in 1872, Marie Equi endured childhood labor in a gritty Massachusetts textile mill before fleeing to an Oregon homestead with her first longtime woman companion, who described her as impulsive, earnest, and kind-hearted. These traits, along with courage, stubborn resolve, and a passion for justice, propelled Equi through an unparalleled life journey. Equi self-studied her way into a San Francisco medical school and then obtained her license in Portland to become one of the first practicing woman physicians in the Pacific Northwest. From Pendleton, Portland, Seattle and beyond to Boston and San Francisco, she leveraged her professional status to fight for woman suffrage, labor rights, and reproductive freedom. She mounted soapboxes, fought with police, and spent a night in jail with birth control advocate Margaret Sanger. Equi marched so often with unemployed men that the media referred to them as her army. She battled for economic justice at every turn and protested the U.S. entry into World War I, leading to a conviction for sedition and a three-year sentence in San Quentin. Breaking boundaries in all facets of life, she became the first well-known lesbian in Oregon, and her same-sex affairs figured prominently in two U.S. Supreme Court cases. Marie Equi is a finely written, rigorously researched account of a woman of consequence, who one fellow-activist considered "the most interesting woman that ever lived in this state, certainly the most fascinating, colorful, and flamboyant." This much anticipated biography will engage anyone interested in Pacific Northwest history, women's studies, the history of lesbian and gay rights, and the personal demands of political activism. It is the inspiring story of a singular woman who was not afraid to take risks, who refused to compromise her principles in the face of enormous opposition and adversity, and who paid a steep personal price for living by her convictions.

Revolutionary Passions written by Hamit Bozarslan and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-09-22 with Social Science categories.

Europe has been the chief arena of revolutionary passions since the end of the eighteenth century. During this same period, and right up to the beginning of the twenty-first century, the non-European world, too, has resonated with coup attempts and revolutionary turmoil. How does one begin to understand these revolutionary passions? To what extent are they influenced by European matrices? Have these revolutions also themselves resulted in ‘exportable models’? Three French writers look at three continents—Latin America, the Middle East and India and interrogate the revolution, with reference to and dialogue with the definitive work of Francois Furet, who wrote The Passing of an Illusion: The Idea of Communism in the Twentieth Century. Interestingly, the original French book Passions révolutionnaires was written in 1995, just after the fall of the Berlin wall. Whether nationalist, religious, proletarian, international, anti-colonial or simply liberty and equality, whether violent or fought passively, the Revolution as a concept and a fact, whether past, present or future, remains a critical reference point for our societies.

OF TUB FAP1LLON, OB LOVE OF ALTERNATION, THE ELEVENTH RADICAL PASSION. Those who weigh words and not things will think that the papillon is the passion of flighty heads: they will consider this name of papillon as synonymous with inconstancy and frivolity. It is nothing of the kind. The gravest characters arc often those that have the papillon among their dominants. It is true that the man, who had the papillon as his exclusive dominant, a monogyne of papillon, (we call monogynv in the scale of characters the man who has only one dominant) would be a frivolous, inconsequent being, and of little worth, but a character that amalgamates the papillon with several other dominants, such as ambition, friendship, familism, the cabalist, becomes a man of great resources, and to prove this, Julius Cajsar, the most perfect, the best organized head that was ever seen on the political stage, had not only the papillon among his co-dominants, but he had it as his superdominant. I give this name to that one of the dominants which has the casting vote, and takes the lead of the others in a character. Let us define the papillon by examples before defining it methodically. See Chap. V., Sec. I. of the Scale of Characters.?Trantlator. f For a complete explanation of these terms, borrowed from musical science, the reader ia referred to Chap. I., Sec. I. of the treatise on the Scale of Characters in the present volume; and also to Chap. VII., Sec. II., Vol. I., on the Passional Dominants and Tonies.?Translator. Every body must have seen some of those men who love to carry on at once a crowd of functions, whether of genus or of species; if they are at work in an action at law, they will want to compose four briefs at once for four different causes. This mania of ...
