In Rage and Carnage in the Name of God, Abiodun Alao examines the emergence of a culture of religious violence in postindependence Nigeria, where Christianity, Islam, and traditional religions have all been associated with violence. He investigates the root causes and historical evolution of Nigeria’s religious violence, locating it in the forced coming together of disparate ethnic groups under colonial rule, which planted the seeds of discord that religion, elites, and domestic politics exploit. Alao discusses the histories of Christianity, Islam, and traditional religions in the territory that became Nigeria, the effects of colonization on the role of religion, the development of Islamic radicalization and its relation to Christian violence, the activities of Boko Haram, and how religious violence intermixes with politics and governance. In so doing, he uses religious violence as a way to more fully understand intergroup relations in contemporary Nigeria.

Religion Public Health And Human Security In Nigeria written by Abiodun Alao and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-12-28 with Religion categories.

This book critically examines the intersection of religion, public health and human security in Nigeria. Focusing on Christianity, Islam, traditional religions and "intra-religious" doctrinal divergencies, the book explores the impact faith has on health-related decisions and how this affects security in Nigeria. The book assesses the connection between religion and five contemporary major health and medical issues in the country. This includes the issue of epidemics and pandemics such as the Covid-19 pandemic, vaccines, contraception, blood transfusion and the controversies associated with "miracle healing". In particular, this book explores situations where individuals have the power of choice but instead embraces faith and religious positions that contradict science in the management of their health and, in the process, expose themselves and others to personal health insecurity. It investigates aspects of human security including the wider international ramifications of health issues, approaches to cures and the interpretation of causes of diseases, as well as the ethno-religious connotations of such interpretations. Exploring key issues that have brought religion into the politics of health and human security in Nigeria, this book will be of interest to students and scholars in the field of African Religion, African Politics, African Studies, public health, security, and Sociology.

With a new introduction by the author, a seminal study of Lebanon’s past, present, and future. With the West’s economic and security interests increasingly at stake in the Middle East, it is impossible to ignore Lebanon—a nation in all ways divided and tormented by the interplay between the West and the Arab world. Sandra Mackey delineates the multifarious culture that is Lebanon; carefully stripping away the complex stigmas of Lebanese politics, she brings each component into focus, priming readers on the conflicts between Sunni and Shia, Maronites and Druze, Christian and Muslim, Israel and the Palestinian Liberation Organization, Lebanon and Palestine, and Syria and Lebanon. Covering Lebanon’s history through the civil war of 197589, and with a new introduction on recent developments, Mackey lays the groundwork needed to comprehend this often ill-understood country—offering insight into its role as the gateway between West and East, and bringing clarity of focus to the schisms that serve to divide and define Lebanon.

Religion And The Making Of Nigeria written by Olufemi Vaughan and has been published by Duke University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-11-18 with History categories.

In Religion and the Making of Nigeria, Olufemi Vaughan examines how Christian, Muslim, and indigenous religious structures have provided the essential social and ideological frameworks for the construction of contemporary Nigeria. Using a wealth of archival sources and extensive Africanist scholarship, Vaughan traces Nigeria’s social, religious, and political history from the early nineteenth century to the present. During the nineteenth century, the historic Sokoto Jihad in today’s northern Nigeria and the Christian missionary movement in what is now southwestern Nigeria provided the frameworks for ethno-religious divisions in colonial society. Following Nigeria’s independence from Britain in 1960, Christian-Muslim tensions became manifest in regional and religious conflicts over the expansion of sharia, in fierce competition among political elites for state power, and in the rise of Boko Haram. These tensions are not simply conflicts over religious beliefs, ethnicity, and regionalism; they represent structural imbalances founded on the religious divisions forged under colonial rule.

A letter, from Pope Urban, is sent to Anne Mercer, Sicari Ductus of the Templar Nuns, prophesying the second coming, but before this great event, Armageddon must occur. Anne is also told that the Lord has unleashed his Mighty Hunter to cleanse the earth in preparation. The Hunter will be born as man and will precede Christ’s return. The task is placed upon her and her Templar Nuns to find and guide the Hunter before anyone else does. She sends out her assassins to search the world for signs. She finds him and names him Mark Baal. She and her order are forced to do unspeakable acts to protect him and the rest of humanity. Saint Michael, the archangel and the Lord’s commander, has also sent his messengers to find the Hunter, but his purposes clash with the Templars. He wishes to use the Hunter in the greater battle between heaven and hell regardless of the damage it does to humanity. Anne is forced into hiding with the child, but she knows it will only be a matter of time before they are found. Saint Michael finds them on Baal’s 30th birthday and the Archangel attempts to undo Anne’s training, searching for ways to release the Hunter’s burning fire from within and begin Apocalypse. Saint Michael and the Templars are each consumed by their own agendas and fail to realize that Baal has his own vision. The nuclear rapture signals the beginning of the Apocalypse, and few understand that this is all part of the Baal divine plan. Baal is forced into a deadly strategy as he attempts to outwit the Templars and Saint Michael in the war against Lucifer. None fully understand his abilities and they soon realize that he is beyond their control. The Templars have one last hope: Lucia, a nun chosen from birth to fall in love with Baal. Will her love be enough to stay his hand from destroying the world and to free humanity from the shadow of Lucifer?

The thirty-two creative clusters are colorful structures that compress yet expand, contain yet perpetuate, and simplify yet mystify. Once readers learn to unpack the maps, they will be amazed by the blessings of spiritual growth. Various activities reinforce the comprehension and memorization of God’s names and scripture references. Each map provides its own paths to color while the pages of creative responses can be filled with artwork, journaling, poetry and songs. The illustrations accompanying the story of Carrie’s butterfly, Joy, provide hours of enjoyable coloring. The workbook can be used individually or adapted easily for prayer, worship, and Bible study groups. Since God’s names are infinite and the journey has just begun, the author hopes that fellow travelers will create their own maps.
