Rank And Pseudo Rank Procedures For Independent Observations In Factorial Designs written by Edgar Brunner and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-07-15 with Medical categories.

This book explains how to analyze independent data from factorial designs without having to make restrictive assumptions, such as normality of the data, or equal variances. The general approach also allows for ordinal and even dichotomous data. The underlying effect size is the nonparametric relative effect, which has a simple and intuitive probability interpretation. The data analysis is presented as comprehensively as possible, including appropriate descriptive statistics which follow a nonparametric paradigm, as well as corresponding inferential methods using hypothesis tests and confidence intervals based on pseudo-ranks. Offering clear explanations, an overview of the modern rank- and pseudo-rank-based inference methodology and numerous illustrations with real data examples, as well as the necessary R/SAS code to run the statistical analyses, this book is a valuable resource for statisticians and practitioners alike.

In today's healthcare landscape, there is a pressing need for quantitative methodologies that include the patients' perspective in any treatment decision. Handbook of Generalized Pairwise Comparisons: Methods for Patient-Centric Analysis provides a comprehensive overview of an innovative and powerful statistical methodology that generalizes the traditional Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney test by extending it to any number of outcomes of any type and including thresholds of clinical relevance into a single, multidimensional evaluation. The book covers the statistical foundations of generalized pairwise comparisons (GPC), applications in various disease areas, implications for regulatory approvals and benefit-risk analyses, and considerations for patient-centricity in clinical research. With contributions from leading experts in the field, this book stands as an essential resource for a more holistic and patient-centric assessment of treatment effects.

A Guide To Robust Statistical Methods written by Rand R. Wilcox and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-10-25 with Mathematics categories.

Robust statistical methods are now being used in a wide range of disciplines. The appeal of these methods is that they are designed to perform about as well as classic techniques when standard assumptions are true—but they continue to perform well in situations where classic methods perform poorly. This book provides a relatively non-technical guide to modern methods. The focus is on applying modern methods using R, understanding when and why classic methods can be unsatisfactory, and fostering a conceptual understanding of the relative merits of different techniques. A recurring theme is that no single method reveals everything one would like to know about the population under study. An appeal of robust methods is that under general conditions they provide much higher power than conventional techniques. Perhaps more importantly, they help provide a deeper and more nuanced understanding of data. The book is for readers who had at least one semester of statistics, aimed at non-statisticians.

Timely update of a popular edition on permutation testing with numerous case studies included throughout The newly revised and updated Second Edition of Permutation Tests for Complex Data describes permutation tests from the point of view of experimental design, with methodological details and illustrating the process of devising an appropriate permutation test through case studies. In addition to the text, this book includes two open source packages for permutation tests in Python and R which include a comprehensive code base to implement common permutation tests as well as code to implement each of the book's case studies. The focus of this book is the permutation approach to a variety of univariate and multivariate problems of hypothesis testing in a typical nonparametric framework. The book examines the most up-to-date methodologies of univariate and multivariate permutation testing, includes real case studies from both experimental and observational studies, and presents and discusses solutions to the most important and frequently encountered real problems in multivariate analyses. Written by two highly qualified authors in the field of nonparametrics and applied statistics, Permutation Tests for Complex Data includes information on sample topics including: Theory of one-dimensional and multi-dimensional permutation tests, covering test statistics, arguments for selecting permutation tests, and examples of one-sample and multi-sample problems Multiplicity control and closed testing, covering raw and adjusted p-values, the MinP Bonferroni-Holm procedure, and weighted methods for controlling FWE and FDR Multivariate categorical variables, covering stochastic ordering, tests on moments for ordered variables, and heterogeneity comparisons NPC tests for survival analysis and shape analysis, covering analysis of PERC data and analysis with correlated landmarks Presenting a thorough overview of permutation testing with both formal description and proofs, Permutation Tests for Complex Data is an excellent introduction to permutation tests for graduate-level statistics or data science courses and will be ideal as a handbook for researchers hoping to use the open source code.

Intercultural Competence And Pragmatics written by Gila A. Schauer and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-12-12 with Language Arts & Disciplines categories.

This Open Access book examines the link between intercultural competence (IC) and pragmatics by asking frontline modern foreign language teachers in higher education teaching a variety of languages (e.g., Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Swedish) how they conceptualise intercultural competence and which skills, competences and knowledge they consider important in their teaching contexts. The data were collected with an online survey that focused on the relationship between intercultural competence and pragmatics. While international organizations such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) or the Council of Europe (CoE) agree that intercultural competence should play an important role in education, it is not always clear what IC may encompass in specific teaching contexts and subject areas. Examining how modern foreign language teachers in higher education conceptualise intercultural competence and the value they attach as well as the attention they give to various areas of pragmatics in their teaching is highly important, since those language professionals may be the final teachers learners encounter during their formal foreign language education. They are therefore in a unique position to shape modern foreign language learners’ intercultural and pragmatic awareness, competence and skills. This book will be of interest to language professionals, modern foreign language teachers and teacher trainers, as well as students and scholars of applied linguistics, pragmatics, and language education.
