'A modern Gothic novel unlike any other, about love and loss echoing through the ages. Sad, sweet, funny and hopeful' --- Emilia Hart (author of Weyward) From acclaimed author Keith Stuart, author of A Boy Made of Blocks and The Frequency of Us, comes a daring and unique story of heartbreak and hope. A single sentence was all it took to define Cammy's life. They came as her beloved artist aunt was dying, a teenage Cammy standing by her bedside: 'Did your mother ever tell you about the curse?' Cammy is warned that the women in her family are destined always to lose the one they love. She thinks nothing of it - until the day when, in her late twenties, her new boyfriend is hit by a car. Convinced she is to blame, Cammy begins to investigate the one-hundred-and-fifty-year story of a family that is both ordinary and remarkable, tragic and beautiful. But is the curse real, or is there an answer lurking in the letters, diaries and paintings of generations of women whose hearts were broken? 'An original yet entirely universal story - sweeping in its scale, yet sweet-tempered, moving, and just the right amount of spooky. I loved it' --- Samuel Burr (author of The Fellowship of Puzzlemakers) 'Love Is a Curse uses Gothic so cleverly. I binged the ending in one sitting and was absolutely gripped (and may have had a tear or two in my eye!)' --- Sarah Brooks (author of The Cautious Traveller's Guide to the Wasteland) READERS ARE IN LOVE WITH LOVE IS A CURSE 'One minute I'm on the edge of my seat and the next I'm reaching for tissues. As my trip into fate continued, we arrived at the tennis court, parked, got ourselves onto the last court and began trying to hit the ball over the net. We did not do very well. The ball went into the net more than over it. The ball went over the high fencing surrounding the courts more than it went over the net. We were engaging in a true exercise in humility. We persisted in this manner for about fifteen minutes-and then it happened! At one point, I can't recall why, but I looked up at the far end of the courts. There was a girl. She entered the court area and slowly walked by all the courts as if looking for someone. As she did so she approached our court, which was at the end. In the meantime, I studied her as if she were a piece of moving art. I was holding the ball and getting ready to try to serve it over the net to Ron and Orv, but I paused. I scanned this vision walking toward me, but apparently not seeing me. She wore a white sailor cap, a white blouse, white shorts, white socks, and white sneakers. Her hair was dark brown, almost black, and she carried herself like a true aristocrat. She also had a dark tan, which meant she had lots of time out in the healthy sun. Her back was straight, and she sort of glided, rather than walked.

Nine psychics have come together to form a group of individuals with similar traits. Fleeing China aboard a stolen jet, they have eluded their military pursuers and now search for a home - a secluded place to live out their life away from the rest of humanity. Yet even as they leave China behind, the group cannot decide which direction to fly. "We must establish a base if we are to survive," the group's founder Michael Tyler insists. However, no one can agree on a single vision. Each psychic has his or her own idealistic version of a utopian society they would build. Each psychic is full of unanswered questions. Where should they start this psychic town? Will their special power give them enough advantage to begin a new community? What place on the planet can provide enough isolation to shield the group from humanity's curious yet judgmental eyes? As they struggle to determine their purpose and their future, they must also find a niche for their individual strengths. So begins Book II of "The Voices Saga," as author William L Stolley seeks a permanent home for his ongoing cast of nine characters: American Michael Tyler, sole survivor of his father's estate; Cecilia Beaton, the Canadian high school graduate; Villi the Russian ex-cop who loves to work on cars; the rest from China: Master Li the ex-professor of English, Han the bureaucratic strategist, Zinian and Zhiwei freshman friends at college, Su Lin the student who loves to cook, and Chou the second year math student. How will this disparate group of individuals fit together to form a working community? A spark of light appears on the horizon and the answers to all of their questions become abundantly clear.

Marguerite Gautier is the most beautiful, brazen—and expensive—courtesan in all of Paris. Despite being ill with consumption, she lives a glittering, moneyed life of nonstop parties and aristocratic balls and savors every day as if it were her last. Into her life comes Armand Duval. Young, handsome, and recklessly headstrong, he is hopelessly in love with Marguerite, but not nearly rich enough. Yet Armand is Marguerite’s first true love, and against her better judgment, she throws away her upper-class lifestyle for him. But as intense as their love for each other is, it challenges a reality that cannot be denied.… This Signet Classics version is the only available paperback edition of Camille, a story as old as time and as timeless as love itself. Set in mid-19th-century France, the novel tells the love story between Marguerite Gautier, a demimondaine or courtesan and Armand Duval, a young bourgeois. Marguerite is nicknamed "lady of the camellias" because she wears a red camellia when she is unavailable for making love and a white camelia when she is available to her lovers. Armand falls in love with Marguerite and ultimately becomes her lover. He convinces her to leave her life as a courtesan and to live with him in the countryside. This idyllic existence is interrupted by Armand's father, who, concerned with the scandal created by the illicit relationship, and fearful that it will destroy Armand's sister's chances of marriage, convinces Marguerite to leave. La Dame aux Camélias is a semi-autobiographical novel based on the author's brief love affair with a courtesan, Marie Duplessis.
