Reaching the World in Our Own Backyard is designed as a guidebook for Christians to better understand and engage people from other countries including immigrants, foreign exchange students, and tourists. By both region and religion, author Rajendra K. Pillai explains cultural considerations and common points of reference to readers eager to share the good news of Jesus Christ with foreign-born individuals. Between 1990 and 2000, Islam, Buddhism, and Hinduism–along with many other religions–grew at a record pace, due heavily to immigration and conversion. During this same period of time the number of people who call themselves Christians dropped by 9 percent. Meanwhile, 98 percent of churches experienced non-growth or declines in attendance.

THE EARLY DAYS OF CHRISTIANITY was written to give some background to the New Testament by supplying context to circumstances that form the historical setting and information on people, places, and events that could help a Bible reader better understand and interpret the Bible. This is a study tool, a companion, partly historic and partly expository, to the whole of the New Testament Farrar hopes that by considering each book in connection with all that we can learn of its author, and of the circumstances under which it was written, he might perhaps contribute to a better understanding of the Scriptures.

The Peace We Can T Reach written by Meg Gorzycki and has been published by Wipf and Stock Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-09-28 with Religion categories.
Propelled by George Floyd's murder in her hometown of Minneapolis, Meg Gorzycki addresses the question of why peace is difficult to cultivate and sustain, and finds that America has always had a love-hate relationship with peace. The Peace We Can't Reach posits that peace is more than the absence of war and aggression, and in its most profound sense is shalom, the commitment to live for the well-being of all so that compassion and justice might prevail. Exploring shalom from the perspective of war, police brutality, mass shootings, and economic injustice, this book offers evidence that neither democracy nor Christianity as Americans have known them are capable of achieving peace. It asserts that the keys to peace are personal and social narratives that give people a sense of identity and their highest purpose, and concludes that gaining control over these narratives is vital to shalom.

Consuming Schools written by Trevor Norris and has been published by University of Toronto Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-01-01 with Business & Economics categories.
The increasing prevalence of consumerism in contemporary society often equates happiness with the acquisition of material objects. Consuming Schools describes the impact of consumerism on politics and education and charts the increasing presence of commercialism in the educational sphere through an examination of issues such as school-business partnerships, advertising in schools, and corporate-sponsored curriculum. First linking the origins of consumerism to important political and philosophical thinkers, Trevor Norris goes on to closely examine the distinction between the public and the private sphere through the lens of twentieth-century intellectuals Hannah Arendt and Jean Baudrillard. Through Arendt's account of the human activities of labour, work, and action, and the ensuing eclipse of the public realm and Baudrillard's consideration of the visual character of consumerism, Norris examines how school commercialism has been critically engaged by in-class activities such as media literacy programs and educational policies regulating school-business partnerships.

Inventing The Garden written by Matteo Vercelloni and has been published by Getty Publications this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010 with Architecture categories.
The authors trace the evolution of the Western garden from the first plots cultivated for pleasure in the Middle East to today's diverse green spaces that challenge traditional ideas about what constitutes a garden. They examine the changing attitude toward nature--as something to be dominated or embraced, ordered or allowed to range freely, exploited or conserved. Examples of the highly prescribed hortus conclusus or enclosed spaces of the Middle Ages are found in the Italian Renaissance gardens and the symmetries of Versailles and Les Tuileries. After the rise of Romanticism in the late eighteenth century, English gardeners such as William Kent and "Capability" Brown embraced the concept that nature should prevail over man's manipulation of it and created gardens that broke through traditional enclosures. A century later, while the American West witnessed both the conquering spirit of the homesteaders and the first stirrings of the conservation movement, urban parks and gardens were created as oases to which all people had access. The book concludes with a look at contemporary gardens, where efforts to reclaim landscapes and repurpose crumbling infrastructure are taking place within an atmosphere of ecological sensitivity--appreciating the idea that the whole planet is a garden and all who live in it are gardeners.
