Essay from the year 2004 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: 1,3, University of Applied Sciences Bremen, 9 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: Conflict can be regarded as a reality of management and organizational behavior. Most of us will understand what is commonly meant by organizational conflict and be aware of its existence and effects. Yet conflict is another term which can be defined and interpreted in a number of ways. We can see conflict as behavior intended to obstruct the achievement of some other person's goals. Conflict is based on the incompatibility of goals and arises from opposing behaviors. It can be viewed at the individual, group or organizational level. Conflict is not necessarily good or bad but inevitable feature of organization life. Even if organizations have taken great care to try and avoid conflict it will still occur. Conflict will continue to emerge despite attempts by management to suppress it. Conflict, if it appears, means that the organization is alive. The group tries to solve now and then quite difficult tasks by using different ideas. It can significantly improve the company's performance when it is oriented on the task solving. But it can very quickly move from task to the people and their emotions. In this case the influence of the conflict on the organization may be very destructive. And everyone should realize that.

The Truth About Middle Managers written by Paul Osterman and has been published by Harvard Business Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-02-24 with Business & Economics categories.

Middle management" is a term associated with relentless downsizing, corporate drudgery, and career dead-ends. Bashed by management gurus, dismissed by social scientists, and painted as victims by the media, middle managers seem permanently relegated to the sidelines of corporate power. But is this popular picture accurate? Are middle managers really no longer valued by today's performance-driven organizations? The truth is surprising. MIT management scholar Paul Osterman has analyzed over thirty years' worth of employment data, interviewed a wide sample of managers, and uncovered a very different picture of middle managers today. Not only have their numbers increased dramatically, but middle managers are wealthier, more productive, more autonomous--and they gain real pleasure from their day-to-day work. But there's another side to the story: while managers have maintained their commitment to their tasks and to their colleagues, they are increasingly cynical and distant from their organizations. They are confused about their future and how to manage their careers. This comes at a time when the value of middle management is much greater than ever before. Organizations must rethink their understanding of this vital workforce segment--now. Understand the issues for yourself with The Truth About Middle Managers' refreshing and counter-intuitive look at what's really going on.

Complexity And Organizational Reality written by Ralph D. Stacey and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-12-18 with Business & Economics categories.

Approaches to leadership and management are still dominated by prescriptions – usually claimed as scientific – for top executives to choose the future direction of their organization. The global financial recession and the collapse of investment capitalism (surely not planned by anyone) make it quite clear that top executives are simply not able to choose future directions. Despite this, current management literature mostly continues to avoid the obvious – management’s inability to predict or control what will happen in the future. The key question now must be how we are to think about management if we take the uncertainty of organizational life seriously. Ralph Stacey has turned to the sciences of uncertainty and complexity to develop an understanding of leadership and management as the ordinary politics of daily organizational life. In presenting organizations as a series of complex responsive processes, Stacey’s new book helps us to see organizational reality for what it actually is – human beings engaged in many, many local conversational interactions and power relations in which they negotiate their ideologically based choices. Organizational continuity and change emerge unpredictably, rather than as a result of any overall plan. This is a radically different picture from the one painted by most of the management literature, which explains "organizational continuity and change" as the realization of the global plans and choices of a few powerful executives within an organization. Providing a new foundation for understanding complexity and management, this important book is required reading for managers and leaders wanting to understand the reality of complexity in organizations, including those engaged in postgraduate studies in leadership, organizational behaviour and change management.
