Is a politically and socially courageous eclectic collection of short stories and poems of contemporary predicaments and issues that often escape mainstream sensibility. Each poem is a compelling short story, versified in a style of poetry I have tagged as, "Versery Rhymes" which is contempo lyrical verse with a bit of urban vernacular dialogue. A range of poignant topics in this collection pertain to credit card entrapment, drug trafficking, lesbian lovers, prostitution, factory farming, death row, psychotic episodes, cigarette smoking, smoking weed, the Prince of the air, the blues, ghosts, etc. the list goes on. A bit less poignant topics are of teen age love affairs, boys and frogs, the rain, Barbie dolls, fashionistas, hot wheels, puppy's, parakeets, baptism, death, forgetfulness... and much much more...this just names a few. As Langston Hughes penned: "Poetry is the human soul entire, Squeezed like a lemon or a lime, Drop by drop into atomic words". The reality of truth in atomic words that are direct commentary on issues is what this work is about.

Reality Poems (2016) is the revised edition of Isabella George's first e-book, Reality Poems of the Modern Day (2014). The title has been shortened, but content increased. In this revision, the poems are presented as more intense in-depth... and reveal an enriched ever-evolving awareness and determination to address issues more explicitly, without trepidation or regard to criticism. Reality Poems is a body of work that is now a collection of 70 short stories and poems of controversial issues relevant to modern culture. Each poem is a short story that creates mood and movement in a rhythmic lyrical contempo cadence aptly called Versery Rhymes™, some poems are written in an urban vernacular. Many stories in the collection of political and social issues are not usually topics of discourse in traditional poetry. These stories in atomic words are a clear and concise commentary on controversial issues not usually considered to be poetic. A range of poignant topics in the collection includes: Credit card entrapment, drug trafficking, interracial lovers, 9/11 conspiracy and other theories, the horrors of factory farming, death row, psychotic episodes, cigarette smoking, Lucifer Prince of the Air, strippers, the blues, ghosts, frankenfood, baptism, the death of one's mother, civil rights struggle of the '60's, sea level rise Miami and the Everglades, smoking weed, imagining the New World Order, aging cougars. Less poignant topics include: Teenage love crushes, forgetfulness, boys and their frogs, Barbie dolls, fashionistas, Hot Wheels, puppies, parakeets, heartbreak, Kool-Aid, the Brazilian Samba, gremlins, island living and many other topics of life.

Modern Life written by Matthea Harvey and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007-10-02 with Poetry categories.

The verse and prose poems of this third collection by Harvey shows her signature wit (the factory puffs its own set of clouds), darkened by an ominous sense of fearfulness in a post-9/11 world, which the poems' seeming levity tries to combat. The backbone of the collection is a pair of sequences titled The Future of Terror and Terror of the Future, that explore those two increasingly loaded words using a clever alphabetical system with haunting results: We were just a gumdrop on the grid. Prose poems bookending the sequences present a fable about a lonely robot (When Robo-Boy feels babyish, he has the option of really reverting); a study of appetite (Ma gave Dinna' Pig his name so that no-one would forget where that pig was headed); an explanation of how the impossibility of mind-reading led to love (Even when they press their ears or mouths or noses together, the skull wall is still in the way); and an unlikely dinner ritual (rip the silhouette from the sky and drag it inside). A few short, lineated poems punctuate the blocks of prose: World, I'm no one/ to complain about you.

Built From Life written by Sarah Toll and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-09-22 with categories.

Unprecedented times often mean uncertainty; life is a bubbling cauldron of change, but nature and humour will often bring a pause or a smile. Sarah's illustrated book of poetry takes you on a short wander that will give you some moments of respite from the burdens of the day. The author decided that a simple book of words would be quite a singular reading experience. To enhance this, she has designed each page to look like that of a personal journal, complete with pictures and doodles. Nature: Sarah's poems about nature will introduce you to the relationship between the sun and moon, as well as the gentle chatter and imagined gossip which goes on amongst flora and fauna. Drabbles: A drabble is a 100 word story. It is a complete work and like any wonderful story it has a beginning, middle and an end. What the author achieves here by adding her own twist to the drabble is quite remarkable. It is picture painting and storytelling in one verse. Life: In stark contract, the chapter on life brings about a moment or two of reflection for the reader. Accounts of life in its raw form can often drain the spirit and even though the subjects in this section are frank, the author imparts undeniable positivity. Humour: The author, determined to leave you with a lightness in spirit, takes a lighthearted look at being human. Using rhyme for most of the poems in this section she undresses the fragility of each of us in such a way you beaming for the rest of the day. Playing with words is something the author does throughout this pamphlet. Look closely and you will find her poems littered with little games. In the poem 'Upon Ageing', each line in every verse begins with the same words. And listen out for rhyming words at the end of the lines in 'What was this Poem Called?' Sarah's poem 'The Light at the End' of the Tunnel, a poem about the Covid pandemic, appears in BBC Radio 4's Covid Chronicles archive stored in the British Library.

Winner of the 2012 Pulitzer Prize * Poet Laureate of the United States * * A New York Times Notable Book of 2011 and New York Times Book Review Editors' Choice * * A New Yorker, Library Journal and Publishers Weekly Best Book of the Year * New poetry by the award-winning poet Tracy K. Smith, whose "lyric brilliance and political impulses never falter" (Publishers Weekly, starred review) You lie there kicking like a baby, waiting for God himself To lift you past the rungs of your crib. What Would your life say if it could talk? —from "No Fly Zone" With allusions to David Bowie and interplanetary travel, Life on Mars imagines a soundtrack for the universe to accompany the discoveries, failures, and oddities of human existence. In these brilliant new poems, Tracy K. Smith envisions a sci-fi future sucked clean of any real dangers, contemplates the dark matter that keeps people both close and distant, and revisits the kitschy concepts like "love" and "illness" now relegated to the Museum of Obsolescence. These poems reveal the realities of life lived here, on the ground, where a daughter is imprisoned in the basement by her own father, where celebrities and pop stars walk among us, and where the poet herself loses her father, one of the engineers who worked on the Hubble Space Telescope. With this remarkable third collection, Smith establishes herself among the best poets of her generation.

Illusion And Reality A Study Of The Sources Of Poetry written by Christopher Caudwell and has been published by Read Books Ltd this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-07-14 with Literary Criticism categories.

This book contains Christopher Caudwell’s 1937 treatise, “Illusion and Reality”. It is a work of Marxist literary criticism that develops the idea that each individual era of British poetry stems from a novel economical paradigm in bourgeois society. Christopher St John Sprigg (1907–1937), more commonly known by his pseudonym 'Christopher Caudwell', was a British Marxist poet and thinker. In early life, he made his way to Marxism and set about rethinking everything in light of it, from poetry to philosophy to physics, and became a staunch member of the 'Communist Party of Great Britain'. Many vintage texts such as this are becoming increasingly rare and expensive, and it is with this in mind that we are republishing this volume now, in an affordable, modern, high-quality edition. It comes complete with a specially commissioned new biography of the author.

Walks In The World written by Roger Gilbert and has been published by Princeton University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-07-14 with Literary Criticism categories.

In the twentieth century no form of experience has been more frequently taken up by poets eager to capture both the openness and fluidity of life and the aesthetic closure of an artwork than that of a walk. Examining the walk poem, Roger Gilbert contends that at its heart is the "desire to keep what we have lived." What is the appeal of the walk poem for modern American poets? According to Gilbert, it provides a ready-made frame within which to explore the full range of individual consciousness as it responds to and reflects on the world immediately at hand. The unstructured, plotless character of the walk allows poets to move freely from place to place, image to image, thought to thought. Suggesting that the walk poem strikes a compromise between the American obsession with process or movement and more traditionally mimetic concerns, Gilbert shows how it enables the poet to apprehend the world as horizon rather than landscape. Through perceptive and extended analyses of walk poems by Frost, Stevens, Williams, Roethke, Bishop, O'Hara, Snyder, Ammons, and Ashbery, he uncovers a spectrum of representational strategies for transforming passing experiences into the more lasting substance of poetry. Walks in the World addresses anyone who takes poetry seriously. Originally published in 1991. The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press. A stunning, intimate collection by the late, great Polish poet Adam Zagajewski. . . . I think I sought wisdom (without resignation) in poems and also a certain calm madness. I found, much later, a moment’s joy and melancholy’s dark contentment. In True Life, the Polish writer Adam Zagajewski, one of the world’s most admired and beloved poets, turns his gaze to the past with piercing clarity and a tone of wry, lyrical melancholy. He captures the rhythms of a city street on the page and the steady beat of the passage of time against it (“Roads cannot be destroyed // Even if peonies cover them / smelling like eternity”) and writes of the endless struggle between stasis and change, between movement and stillness (“We knew / it would be the same / as always // It would all go back to normal”). Mary Oliver called Zagajewski “the most pertinent, impressive, meaningful poet of our time,” and Philip Boehm wrote in The New York Times Book Review that his poems “pull us from whatever routine threatens to dull our senses, from whatever might lull us into mere existence.” True Life, first published in Polish in 2019 and translated with genius by Clare Cavanagh, reveals the astonishing, immortal depths of Zagajewski’s insight and artistry

ENDLESS VISIONS is a modern-day book of poetry, focused on different aspects of life. The author has written poems which she hope will be motivational to readers, a source of encouragement to those experiencing personal tragedies in their lives, and to share personal feelings of the author. The poems are based on simple everday situations faced by many of us in the society. Poetry is an art, an expression of built-up emotions, sometimes hard to express in a regular conversation with others. This gives us the opportunity to acknowledge and face the issues that confront us in our daily lives. ENDLESS VISIONS also included several poems written about famous Jamaican cultural tourist destinations. It also included poems about Jamaicans who were considered legends in their own right, and who were very influential in promoting Jamaica worldwide.
