This book was developed while I was teaching graduate courses on analysis, design and optimization of structures, in the United States, Europe and Israel. Structural analysis is a main part of any design problem, and the analysis often must be repeated many times during the design process. Much work has been done on design-oriented analysis of structures recently and many studies have been published. The purpose of the book is to collect together selected topics of this literature and to present them in a unified approach. It meets the need for a general text covering the basic concepts and methods as well as recent developments in this area. This should prove useful to students, researchers, consultants and practicing engineers involved in analysis and design of structures. Previous books on structural analysis do not cover most of the material presented in the book. The book deals with the problem of multiple repeated analyses (reanalysis) of structures that is common to numerous analysis and design tasks. Reanalysis is needed in many areas such as structural optimization, analysis of damaged structures, nonlinear analysis, probabilistic analysis, controlled structures, smart structures and adaptive structures. It is related to a wide range of applications in such fields as Aerospace Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture.

Reanalysis Methods For Structures With Laser Induced Damage written by S. K. Bryan and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1983 with categories.

A reanalysis method to analyze the strength of a structure which has encountered a laser strike is developed. The method accounts for the following types of laser induced damage: (1) loss of structure due to melting; (2) change of material properties due to temperature changes; and (3) addition of load due to thermal stress. The program uses heat balance calculations over successive finite time increments on an array of finite elements bisecting the laser beam spot to determine the temperature distribution. These results are then converted to structural stiffness parameters and the structural analysis is performed using a finite element based reanalysis method. The reanalysis method predicts the damage effects from the initial undamaged solution. The program was found to give good results consistent with results obtained from a separate analysis for each damage condition, but with less computer time and manhours. (Author).

Efficient Reanalysis Of Locally Modified Structures written by B. P. Wang and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1980 with categories.

A unified efficient formulation for the static, dynamic, and stability reanalysis of locally modified structures is presented. The reanalysis problem is to find the structural responses when some of the element properties are adjusted as a result of design modifications. The reanalysis problem is formulated as a problem of much lower order than the original system. This is achieved by utilizing the linearity property of the structure using the pseudo-load concept, together with the solution of the original system. The modifications to the structure are treated as displacement dependent pseudo-loads of the system. By expressing the modified system response as linear combinations of the response of the original system and a term depending on the pseudo-load, a reduced set of response equations can be obtained. In the static and sinusoidal steady state analyses, this leads to a set of linear algebraic equations. For free vibration and stability analyses, this results in an eigenvalue problem. General modifications involve multiple parameters so that numerical solutions are required. Numerical examples are included. For the special case of a single parameter variation, a simple closed form formulation of the reanalysis problem is provided. Explicit reanalysis formulas are presented for changes in the cross-sectional area of truss members, the stiffness of beams, the thickness of plane stress elements, and lumped springs and masses. Reanalysis For Static And Steady State Structure Response written by Kunal Rohit Parikh and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010 with categories.

Reanalysis of a structure has become very important in structural analysis, as it reduces the cost and the computational time required to measure the response of the structure after it has been modified. As the importance of reanalysis has become clear, more and more research has been carried out in the field of reanalysis, which has lead to many different methods to carry out reanalysis. There are various methods which can be used for any single structural reanalysis problem and it would give us different results depending upon the method selected. Due to lot of methods which are available to solve a single problem it sometimes becomes difficult to identify which method is better and which method gives results which are more accurate. In this thesis various methods which are commonly used for static structure and steady state reanalysis have been compared to identify which one of them gives us more accurate solution without increasing the computational time and cost significantly. After comparing all the methods in this thesis, it has been found that Combined Approximation Method gives us better results than all the other methods. All the methods are implemented in MATLAB R2007b to get all the results. All the results obtained by reanalysis methods are compared with the exact solution of the modified structure to check the validity of the results obtained by the reanalysis methods.
