Each institution has its own history, geography, social contexts, opportunities, and constraints. Higher Education institutions like universities are no exception to it. There is a common thread that runs through them all; they train the youth, the citizens of tomorrow to shape their own future and reshape the future of their motherland and thus the future of the world. The purpose of this book is to create a new and brighter future for Allahabad University, the Alma mater of the author. The book shows the way to reshape the University into one of the top 20 universities of India in a decade or so. The ups and downs which Allahabad University has gone through since India won its Independence in 1947; the efforts made by the author for 36 months (18 January, 1984-17 January, 1987) to take it back on a fast track of development; and what happened to the University after it was taken over by the Central Government and renamed as Allahabad Central University in 2005, constitute the main thrusts of the book. The suggestions made to bring it back to the path of recovery and development, are relevant not only to this but other universities and institutions of higher education too.

Rebuilding Our Schools From The Bottom Up written by Fiona Carnie and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-11-30 with Education categories.
The aim of this book is to explore how teachers, students and parents can be given more of a say in the education system – in how schools are organised, and in what and how children learn. The book does not promote a specific view of education, but considers the means by which educational purposes and approaches can be conceived, agreed and enacted democratically – a precursor to a flourishing democratic society. Rebuilding Our Schools from the Bottom Up has been written in response to significant changes which have taken place in the education system over the past 30 years. In England at least, these changes have resulted in an increasingly centralised system in which the voices of those who teach, those who learn, and those whose children go to school have been marginalised. The book covers four main areas: Teacher voice: listening to the professionals Student voice: involving students as active participants in their education Parent voice: building a genuine home–school partnership School community voice: developing a shared vision With inspiring examples from around the UK and overseas and a range of resources that can be used by senior leaders, teachers and parents, the book aims to encourage and support transformative change so that schools can meet the needs of the communities they exist to serve.

How to rebuild higher education from the ground up for the twenty-first century. Higher education is in crisis. It is too expensive, ineffective, and impractical for many of the world's students. But how would you reinvent it for the twenty-first century—how would you build it from the ground up? Many have speculated about changing higher education, but Minerva has actually created a new kind of university program. Its founders raised the funding, assembled the team, devised the curriculum and pedagogy, recruited the students, hired the faculty, and implemented a bold vision of a new and improved higher education. This book explains that vision and how it is being realized. The Minerva curriculum focuses on “practical knowledge” (knowledge students can use to adapt to a changing world); its pedagogy is based on scientific research on learning; it uses a novel technology platform to deliver small seminars in real time; and it offers a hybrid residential model where students live together, rotating through seven cities around the world. Minerva equips students with the cognitive tools they need to succeed in the world after graduation, building the core competencies of critical thinking, creative thinking, effective communication, and effective interaction. The book offers readers both the story of this grand and sweeping idea and a blueprint for transforming higher education.

The Five Volume Series on 'Regional Development: Theory and Practice' is a festschrift dedicated to Professor R.P. Misra, a distinguished scholar, widely recognized as one of the pioneers who initiated and promoted Regional Planning studies in India. This five-volume series, with over one hundred research papers on different aspects of regional development, is a fitting tribute to the scholar who spent much of his life time thinking, researching and writing about development in general and regional development in particular. These five volumes, each dealing with a specific aspect of regional development, Vol. 1 Concept of Regional Development, Vol. 2 Measuring Development, Vol. 3 Development Patterns and Structures, Vol. 4 Development Policies, and Vol. 5 Development Challenges Each of the five volumes begins with an introduction, which is unique in the sense that this is not merely an introduction to the contributions contained in the volume but also talks of the theory of regional development, contemporary development in the discipline and the contrarian views expressed by various academics and policy-makers. Another significant aspect of these introductions is the global view and a comparative scenario of the developed, developing and under-developed economies of the world, that the editors have kept in view, in a debate seeking an universal theory of regional development. Regions are specifics and often unique and “regional development implies focusing on the assets of the territory, its potential and constraints”.

'This is a book full of brilliant ideas for change that could form the basis of addressing some of the big challenges for the United States in this turbulent century: the political, socio-economic, and judicial divisions in the nation in particular. It offers detailed ideas which are practical and thought-provoking. Highly recommended for every citizen who cares about the trajectory of America!' Admiral James Stavridis, USN (Ret) is the 14th Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Rockefeller Foundation; he retired as a 4-Star Admiral American Democracy is at a Turning Point. Most of the American people believe our government is on the wrong track, is broken, and is not capable of solving our major problems. Our national leaders have for too long made the rules for how we are governed for the benefit of their careers and re-election, primarily serving partisan and donor interests instead of serving the country. This book will present fact-based, unbiased and non-partisan actions that "We the People" can take to restore a service-to-country culture in Congress and the Administration.
